Got a big problem here guys, need help if possible, I brought and install Jagged Alliance 2 last night, since then I have not been able to load one single saved game, it makes no difference if I saved in tactical screen or map screen, everytime it would say "error loading game", tried starting different new games to make this is not a single incident, and it is not. I am running Jagged Alliance 2 on a brand new laptop, Window Vista, Intel Centrino Duo 2.00G, with 4GB of RAM. All other game I brought from GOG seem to work fine on this laptop; Fallout 2, Fallout tactics etc.
Please help, any suggestion or advice will be great.

I have the same problem. Upon loading a saved game it runs through the red progress bar, starts through the blue progress bar and then displays error loading save.
I am on vista 64 bit home premium, q6600, 4gb ram, 8800gtx...
Fun game, reminds me of xcom without the base building (just finished first level so dunno yet). Hope there is a solution out there for this.
Have you tried new installation of JA?
Have you tried running it with administrator rights (run as administrator) ?
Have you tried AMD ? :)
Are you running some kind of firewall (kerio in active mode sometimes blocks apps)?
you have similiar PC to me, but i have AMD instead of intel (gpu 88GTX, 4GB damaged ram), and I haven't any problem yet with any game from GOG.

tried reinstalling, no luck, saves are still failing to load.
no firewall except windows default.
just for more data: I also bought JA2: UB from gog... its save and load function works fine.
EDIT:::::::::
Good call moonfear! I tried running it as administrator. Had to go to the file location right click and Run As Administrator. Load works now correctly. Will post again if it fails.
Nice ! =)
Now I need to figure out a way so that the game short cut in the My Games location runs as admin. Thanks again =)

Just a little addition: I didn't buy JA2 from Gog (still had the CDs *g*), but for me it simply worked to set the rights of the JA2 folder for the default user completely. This way I don't have to start the game as an administrator.
i have the same problem but if i set ja2.exe to "run as admin" my save game disappears as i can't load anything. If i deselect "run as admin" ..the saves are back in the game.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am running Win7 , 64bit

You'll find your save game files from when you're not running as admin here (replace <YOURUSERNAME>):

C:\Users\<YOURUSERNAME>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Jagged Alliance 2\SavedGames

You need to copy them into the actual physical directory in program files then run as admin to be able to access them.

Or save some hassle and don't install to program files, so not needing to run as admin (You'll still need to copy those files to get your games back).
thank you wpegg. It works.
Bumping thread as I also have this problem, with not loading my save.

I have tried reinstalling JA2, and the 1.13 mod pack, I have tried disabling my windows firewall aswell as disabling AVG (Anti Virus) and I am clueless as what to do in order to try and be able to play my saved game which I have worked really hard on.

It's just incredibly disappointing having to start over, so I hope someone has got a solution for me..

I run Windows 7, 64-bit.

I was playing the save yesterday only to wake up today and not having it work. Same problem as OP; It loads the whole red bar then partially blue; then the game just shuts down without even any error message.

So have you tried running the game as administrator? You can also circumvent this issue by installing the game to a directory that isn't c:\Program Files (x86), such as C:\Games.

Yeah naturaly I did try running as administrator.

It didn't help though, and neither did installing the game in a different category.
You're supposed to move the SavedGames over to the new folder when it's done right, or leave it where they are?

In this case I moved them to the new category, and I still have the same issue.

First of all, move the directory outside of Program Files if you haven't done that already. After that, find your saves (at the virtualstore directory mentioned above) and move them to Jagged Alliance 2\Profiles\UserProfile_JA2113\SavedGames
This should allow you to load them without problem.
Should you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

The directory is in C:/JA2/Jagged Alliance 2 Gold (I simply made a folder called JA2 in C to have somewhere to put it in)

Also my saves weren't located in the directory you described, there were in C:/Program(x86)/Jagged Alliance 2 Gold/Data-1.13/SavedGames

Is my directory different because I have Jagged Alliance 2 Gold? Seems like it when I look at how your SavedGames differ in location from mine.

JA2 1.13 replaces whatever version you originally had. It doesn't matter if that version was JA2 1.00 or JA2 1.12, the result is JA2 1.13
As to the different location, JA2 utilizes a Virtual File System (from here on called VFS) which allows it to look for files in more than 1 directory, and using the first one it finds. By default, it should look first in the profiles folder, then in Data-1.13, and finally in Data. While in theory it should work by using any of the 3 locations, it is quite similar to the Program Files -> VirtualStore situation, thus why I suggest to move them to the Profiles folder.
If that doesn't work either, I will need to dig a bit deeper to see what else may be causing it.

Well I don't see any "Profiles" folder in the directory so nothing I can do there :/
