Do the actual game ends when u beat final boss or u have somekind of freeplay, when u could venture forth lvling ur minions and collecting artifacts and etc.?

Nope, the scenario doesn't allow this gameplay (or the reverse, the decided gameplay henced the scenario):
the game is ended, you're back completly naked to a new start, with what is new: unlocked monsters to be built, and possible new difficulty.
