So I just noticed that I can't even play the single player mode.
First level: Taurus just drives along the road very slowly and nothing happens. I mean, after a while he's supposed to take that shortcut but doesn't. He just keeps going and going slooooowly.
I used the code (ctrl+shift+getdown) to get to the second mission and the same thing happens there.
Also using -d3d or -glide just gives me "failed to initialize hardware acceleration" error and the game crashes.

I seem to be having the same problem. Taurus drives really slowly and sort of wobbles around on the road with his brake lights flashing.
I'm also on Win7 x64.

I also have him going slowly with wild steering, but at least he takes the shortcut. I can blow up the store, and then we both go to the wagon wheel, so it's working correctly.
Can't remember whether he was slow back when the game was new or whether the wild steering happened back then, though.
Edit: Looks like the wild steering and braking just happens because the game runs way faster than originally (watch the clouds race across the sky :)
Still, the baddies at the wagon wheel were just about as fast as they should be.

I'm having the same problem.
I tried a couple different glide wrappers out there and same error.
I'm also on Win7 x64
I also have 2x Radeon 4890's in Crossfire which may matter as well
Should have mentioned I still play with the software renderer for now.
Taurus' car bounces and brake lights for me too, and the game crashed after killing Mr. French near the wagon wheel.
Trying to look past the bugs for some reminiscing as I play, but full-on crashes(computer, not car) are kind of a deal breaker...
Tried running the game as admin? Usually solves all the weird problems....at least for me :D
TRy software rendering, I was able to do 5 missions now.
Software works well
Still hope a solution can be found for 3D acceleration though ;).
Seems odd that D3D gives the same error. I don't think it's the Glidewrapper giving the problem.
I'm the opposite under XP. The default link has the problems described in the OP but playing with the Glide wrapper makes everything run perfectly. I'm not complaining.
A great many "First Generation Acclerated 3D" games have problems with modern cards.
The issue is not easy to solve, since it involves the drivers for the Graphics cards, and you need the basic code for the games to adjust this.
I am letting GOG off the hook for graphic card issues with older games..

Agreed that it is difficult. I'm still hoping for a solution. I'm not upset at GoG. I had problems setting up I76 in the past and getting the basic game up and going has been pretty much trouble free.
If I could get Glide working that'd be icing on this delicious cake.
working out some kinks on my Windows 7 64bit machine, but thought I'd give it a try on my netbook, and Acer Aspire One with an atom and intel 950GM graphics running XP... and dang it if the game runs PERFECT, Glide mode looks great, and the whobbly/bouncy problems are nonexistant! So, maybe there's hope!
Trip mode worked great, played through the first few missions... Have to laugh as it's perfectly smooth and looks great on a $200 netbook, yet GLIDE mode chugs along on my desktop replacement laptop with a 260mGTX ha...
But, bottom line, TRIP mode does still work, along with 3D Glide mode... just gotta get it tweaked for the newest machines.
I had issues with glide mode crashing as soon as I entered the game. Glide on i76 nitro worked perfectly fine though.
Anyways, a fix that may potentially work for some of you is going to the shortcut for i76 glide in the start menu, clicking properties, compatibility tab and selecting win98/ME comptability.
This worked for me in XP.

Good to hear! I have the same Netbook, and am going to try to get the game working on it this weekend....
