I've been trying to get Interstate '82 to run for weeks, without any success. I can get in-game menu, but the game itself won't start (New Trip, Training, etc.).

My specs are as follows:

- Intel Core i5-2310 CPU 2.9 Ghz
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti
- 6 GB RAM
- Windows 10 Professional (64-bit)

Any help is welcome, and thank you very much in advance.
Some help would really be appreciated.
Tons of workarounds and still no fix for this messy game.

Check these threads and see if anything helps, man.

Mein System:

Intel i7 Notebook mit 2,7 Ghz.
8 GB DDR4 Ram
Nvidia Geforce 940 MX mit 2 GB
Windows 10 64bit.

To play the old game Interstate '82 on your PC, you have a few options depending on your system and preferences. Since Interstate '82 was released in 1999, it might not run natively on modern systems without some tweaks. Here are the main ways to get it working:

1. Use a DOSBox or Compatibility Mode (for older versions)
Interstate '82 is a Windows game, but it may have compatibility issues with modern OS versions. If you're on Windows 10/11, you can try running it in compatibility mode:

Right-click on the game executable.
Choose Properties > Compatibility tab.
Set it to run in Windows XP or Windows 98 compatibility mode.
However, if this doesn’t work, you can try running the game in a virtual machine or using a DOS emulator like DOSBox (for games that require older Windows versions or DOS systems). It can be a bit tricky to configure, though.

2. Check for Digital Distribution
Interstate '82 may be available on platforms like GOG.com (Good Old Games) or Steam. These platforms typically offer older games with updates that make them work on modern systems without much hassle. If it's available there, you can buy it, download it, and play it right away.

3. Find the Game's Original Files
If you have a copy of Interstate '82 (either on CD or in your digital library), you can try installing it manually and then use patches or fan-made updates to make it run on newer systems. If you need the original files or patches, fan forums and sites like PCGamingWiki might have specific fixes for this game.

4. Consider Using a Virtual Machine
You could also install an older version of Windows (like XP) in a virtual machine using VirtualBox or VMware. This gives you a fully functioning older system within your current OS where you can run the game like it was originally intended.

Let me know if you need help with any of these options or if you'd like some specific instructions for a step!

If you've downloaded Interstate '82 from GOG and it's not running at all, here are a few things you can try to get it working:

1. Run the Game as Administrator
Right-click on the Interstate '82 shortcut or executable in your GOG installation folder.
Select Run as Administrator. Sometimes, lack of permissions can prevent games from starting.
2. Check for Compatibility Mode
If the game isn’t starting, try running it in compatibility mode:
Right-click the Interstate '82 executable.
Select Properties > Compatibility tab.
Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows 98/Windows Me.
Apply the settings and try launching the game again.
3. Update Video Drivers
Since Interstate '82 is an older game, it might not like modern GPU drivers. Make sure your video drivers are up-to-date.
You can also try reverting to older graphics drivers if the game refuses to run, as some games don't play well with the latest updates.
4. Install the Necessary DirectX or Visual C++ Redistributables
Even though GOG usually provides the necessary libraries, sometimes manually installing older DirectX versions or Visual C++ redistributables can fix issues.
For DirectX, you can download and install DirectX 9.0c from the Microsoft website.
Similarly, make sure you have the right version of Visual C++ Redistributables. You can get these from Microsoft if needed.
5. Disable Full-Screen Optimization
Windows 10/11 sometimes has issues with full-screen optimization.
Right-click the executable and go to Properties > Compatibility.
Check the box for Disable full-screen optimizations.
Click Apply, then try running the game again.
6. Check Game Files for Corruption
GOG has a repair option that can help ensure all the files are correct:
Open the GOG Galaxy client.
Go to your game library.
Click on the three dots next to Interstate '82 and select Manage Installation > Verify / Repair.
This will check for missing or corrupt files and fix them automatically.
7. Try a Different Launch Method (GOG Galaxy vs. Standalone)
If you're using GOG Galaxy to launch the game, try running the game directly from the game’s installation folder (where the executable is located) instead.
Sometimes, running it outside of GOG Galaxy can bypass issues related to the client.
8. Use a GOG Forum Solution
Since it’s a GOG game, you might not be alone in facing this issue. You can check out the Interstate '82 GOG community page for any similar reports and possible fixes:
Visit the game's page on the GOG forums (look for troubleshooting topics).
You might find specific advice for getting it to work on modern systems.

Got this thing working, finally. Too bad it's not nearly as good as Interstate '76, lol.

1. Install the game as usual.
2. Download DXWnd v.2.05.47. Maybe a new version works, this one works best for me.
3. Click Options > Expert Mode.
4. Click Edit > Add. Path and Launch fields should be the "i82stubz.exe" location. Name it I82 or whatever.
5. MAIN Tab Settings {See Image}
6. VIDEO Tab Settings {See Image}
7. SOUND Tab Settings {See Image}
8. COMPAT. Tab Settings {See Image}
9. Edit i82.cfg: {See Image}

Now launch the game from DXWnd. This will run the game in a "fullscreen" that emulates the game's original 4:3 aspect ratio. My native desktop resolution is 1920x1080; If yours is bigger, you may want to select a different 4:3 ratio than 1440x1080.
