I have one inventory page that is "blacked out" all of a sudden and I can't use it any more. The other inventory pages/slots work fine, but not this particular one. Does this mean I'm carrying too much encumbrance? Or maybe this is a bug of some kind?
It's a bug. The game will probably crash in 10 minutess or so after it occurs.

Restart it, should help.

After many loads/saves or 2-3 hours I get something similar, only mine is red rectangles in place of items.

I have this problems every 2-3 hours, too. Save the game, exit to desktop and restart the game. Should only take a few seconds, but yes, it is a a bug. I think it's a technical problem like the buffer overrun or something like that.

Have you realized that your inventory has two parts, one on the left side and one of the right side (like book pages)? You can't display the same inventory page on both sides at the same time so the one you display on the left side is blacked out on the right side and the other way round.
yes, stupid me didn't even notice that. The bug they are talking about is something different than my "problem" as it turns out.
Heh, so it's not a bug, it's a feature ;)

As LordCrash said, you can open inventory tabs in both windows.

Anyway if you do encounter the bug described only way to fix it is to restart the game.

whenever i open my inventory and everything is red i quicksave, then if i quickload it'll crash, it happens every couple hours but its no big deal, i use alt-tab all the time and in some games that can end up making it unstable, it really isn't a big deal tho just have to reboot the game every now and then, like right now lol

lol. Yeah there's some games where it's down right painful to alt-tab out. It takes several seconds, the graphics do funny things, the music or sound fx start looping, and then you're finally out. If you're lucky the game won't crash when you click back into it.
