Every thread that touches on the topic of how to run this game in windowed mode mentions changing the line "fullscreen:1" to "fullscreen:0" in the game's "default.cfg" file. However, this has no effect whatsoever for me beyond making the intro movies run at 1:1 with my native resolution before forcing me into ugly low resolution full screen for the game itself anyway.

Does anyone know what I might be missing here? The line simply doesn't work at all from what I can see, yet others seem to report that it does. I've tested this with both the GoG and retail versions.

The only other workaround I can think of is changing your display resolution manually before starting the game, then reverting afterwards. It should allow you to play it as intended and switching from one mode to another by hand shouldn't cause much fuss.

Bumping this, especially since whenever I alt tab the game crashes.
