If you want to run the game in a higher resolution, but the default glide wrapper (zeckensack) and the dgVoodoo glide wrapper don't work correctly, then you can try the nGlide wrapper.

(Skip to "The Solution" if you only want to know how to set up the nGlide wrapper ;) )

THE PROBLEM:
So I recently bought Independence War: Deluxe Edition and there was one "issue": It ran in 640x480, in a small box with black borders.
So I tried to configure the default glide wrapper ini, setting "high_res" to 1, inserting "res_limit x" etc. ... Nothing changed, still 640x480.
Then I gave dgVoodoo a try. I set it up, as it is described in this thread and... hooray! It ran in 1600x900 (my native resolution)! But another problem appeared: the text on the ship-displays disappeared! Well apparently, I cheered too soon. :-P

THE SOLUTION:
Next thing I tried was the nGlide wrapper:

Only thing you have to do is to download and install it. And be sure to delete (or rename) glide2x.dll and glide3x.dll in the game directory (I'm no expert in this, but I think otherwise there would be a conflict with the default wrapper (zeckensack's wrapper. Please correct me if I'm wrong). Go to the Windows Start Menu and start the nGlide configurator. Here you can set your desired resolution.
And this time I had a reason to cheer: Now it runs in 1600x900 PLUS the text is there where it belongs ;)

I hope this helps the people, who also had issues getting the right resolution (or had other graphical issues) with the default and dgVoodoo wrapper.

P.S.:
I just started to play the game, so I cannot tell if the nGlide wrapper is or is not stable. If someone can confirm, that it is indeed stable throughout the game, I will write it in this post. But like I said before, I'm absolutely no expert in this, so if someone encounters issues, I hope you'll be able to discuss a solution in this thread.

EDIT (01.09.2011):
It seems that the nGlide wrapper works very well for I-War and there are no problems!
Thanks Buatha, cooperblack, Ravenger for the confirmations! :)

I can confirm that I made it through NAV Advanced past the two points that usually crashed my game with dgVoodoo.

So, I am running I-War at 1920 X1080 on Win7 64-bit without issue. Thank you for pointing this out. I tried an earlier version of nGlide, but I may not have configured it properly since I was trying dgVoodoo, the Zecken-something one, nGlide all around the same time.

NOTE: You will need to run iwar_start.exe and not I-War.exe (it will crash if you do). If done properly, you will see the 3Dfx splash logo.
For me the zeus glide wrapper works absolutely perfect - i played though the entire game with not a single crash..what a lovely little program :)
I've played through a few missions with this wrapper and it works very well indeed. Looks like we've finally got a wrapper that does the business!
Hey, Ravenger. Sorry, man, I forgot to PM you that this wrapper was working now! It's epic playing this on my LCD TV with the stereo.
Hi,

I have Nvidia GF4 Ti4200 gfx card. In some games I have so called font distortion problem.

When I use nGlide wrapper the game runs well but the text in the game is distorted.

Is there any way to fix it?

[edited] Never mind, it's enough to set the nGlide to the same resolution as windows and the fonts are not distorted anymore. Great! :)

This is brilliant! Thanks for the excellent tip! Now, if only I could get Iwar2 to work with nVidia 3D Vision...
Works like a charm!! Many thanks Chief05. Also this works well for either ATI or nVidia cards.

Thanks for the tip! :)

But. It works fine for I-War... but not for I-War Defiance, for me.
Any idea?
Remember to also delete the Glide .dll's in your Defiance directory. They're in there as well and will interfere with nGlide.

Guys, is there any way to make nGlide work with an AA injector like FXAA or SMAA? I for one hate the fact that in I-War (1), the lines of, say, the Lagrange cones aren't in any way smoothed. Normal 3D objects are smoothed perfectly with SSAA, but the AA mechanism absolutely doesn't touch the HUD overlay.

I hope it's somehow possible because HUD looks horrible when bigger...
FIXED, works per nGlide instructions here

- sorry my bad thought I was still in 640x800 , but checked monitor settings and ships carefully and I was in fact at high reolution. It was the crappy cockpit in high res that fooled me and being tired. :(

HELP
I love this game, just downloaded it and need higher resolution.

I've been trying to get this to work for 2 days now, ready to pull out my hair!
I tried all of the above but still low resolution (600x800),

some notes-

OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium 32 bit
Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002
Processor AMD Athlon(tm) Dual Core Processor 4450e, 2300 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
Adapter Description NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT

some prelim answers-

-Yes I do see the 3dfx splash, I presume that means the new nglide stuff is kicking in-
-Yes i did try with AND without " -b -16" (nGlide's home page mentions to use -b -16)
-Yes i did rename glide2 + glide 3 to a new extension in both dirs

PLS HELP

PS- I know this may be silly but is it possible the resolution is high and it looks pretty much the same to me, how do I confirm? (gonna go look for youtube hd vids etc to see for now)

You change resolution with nGlide configurator, have you done that?
I'd like to say that I'm using nGlide and it works great. The ships and stations look much better at 1920x1200.
