I just wanna ask if the 3 major issues with I-War Deluxe have been fixed for this release:
1) Needing a Glide video card;
2) Crash to desktop every time you beat a mission and go back to the menu;
3) The need to set virtual memory down to less than 512MB for the game to run.
I guess #1 can be easily fixed by bundling a Glide wrapper with the game. But the other bugs are very serious and were unfixed up until now.
Thanks!

I have another bug with retail version on my computer : I cannot play while a force feedback joystick or rumble gamepad is plugged. When I fire my main cannon, the game crashes. With a non-vibrating gamepad, everything works fine (except for the 3 problems mentionned above). It's sad since I don't own a non-forcefeedback joystick. Did GOG manage to fix that as well ?
Can't wait to get back from work to play the game :-)

GOG is so cruel that way. I just got in to work to discover I-War is up, and now I've got a whole 8 hour day in front of me. Damn you, GOG! Let's get on the same schedule, here! I could have called in sick if I'd had more notice!
Just installed it and tryed it seems they fixed all the problems
no crash on shift-q
no crash after completing one mission and starting another
no need to preset vitrual mem
id say glide enabled
no idea on FF joystick
Kudos to GOG for fixing this gem
:)

Great news ! I was afraid GOG could not solve some problems, resulting in a imperfect release such as Interstate or Outcast. I-War really deserves better.
I will go home in about an hour, add another one for the download, and I'll report about the force feedback thing if no one else does in the meantime.

Yeah, it actually WORKS.
I had to set the shortcut compatibility to Win XP SP2, because the mouse cursor was constrained to a 800x600 box on the top left corner, but it WORKS.
And it seems to be the hardware accelerated version too.
I just have one tiny nit to pick, other than the cursor thing: The game is not "obeying" my GPU settings to scale up while keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio. It's stretching to 16:10 (unlike regular OpenGL and Direct 3D games). I hope it's possible to fix, but it's perfectly playable even then. Thanks GoG!

Thank the maker! Thanks for reporting on this.
In which case I'll gladly give them $6 (I was holding off till I knew it worked. Given I had bought I-War twice already - I-War second hand, then I-War Deluxe at full price to support what I considered a great game).
I've played through I-War 2 a few times and really enjoyed it, but haven't played the original. I'll be buying this game tonight.
<Insert "you guys rock!" smiley here>
No luck here.
Intro movie crashes launching the game exe. That can be launched on its own, but the menu is garbled, the game start icon crashes the program, and the options icon brings up another garbled screen. This one is so messed up no symbol or shape of any kind is recognizable.
I don't see an ini file with video modes or anything else that might be useful at this point. Can't even get it to come out of fullscreen.
No doubt this will get sorted out, just some rain on the parade FYI: For at least some of us, this is probably going to be a headache and a time sink.

You have to use the other game start exe. Not the original.
Have you tried setting a compatibility mode? What's your OS/Hardware?

I have to use iwar_start.exe if I want it to crash coming out of the intro movies. If I want to get as far as the menu to screen and crash there, IWar.exe is the way to go for that.

Vista, Nvidia, AMD. compatability, administrator, DEP, meh. Thanks but I think I'm going to pass on this part. I got a free beer earlier, just found a dollar behind the monitor, let's call it even.
Download took longer than expected, I could only play the game this morning.
Anyway, for the force-feedback thing : everything works fine. No crash, and I even get a nice recoil effect when firing a shot. That's great work GOG, thank you !
Overall, this seems like a great release. I had never tested the hardware accelerated version before, it looks really better than the software renderer. I had to deactivate the "blur background" effect though, otherwise I get very poor performance. Probably related to the glide wrapper or something.
The fact that I only had to spend literally two minutes to troubleshoot makes the $6 worth it already. I remember fighting with my retail copy for a good week and a half trying to get the Glide Wrapper to play nicely with the large number of applications on my system. (In the end, I had to get rid of it since it kept interfering a lot with newer games.)
Now it's looking absolutely beautiful, it's lacking the Shift-Q (or mission end) crash, and sounds wonderful with a subwoofer. (Oh my god does it sound like win with a subwoofer..)

Yeah, I'm glad you gave up, because I lost all the will to help after your smart-arse reply.
Anyways, I hope there's some way to get the aspect ratio right. I"d love to play this without stretching.

Are you referring to my original post where I discussed both executables in question, or the one where you acted like I had only mentioned one of them?
Does your Intro.exe launch the game executable?
Perhaps it was somewhere in the post where you imagined me asking for help.
