I thought it would be nice to have one post for all the numerous files that i have seen around here for different fixes to common problems.
please feel free to contribute here. (if its possible, maybe a mod could mark this as sticky or the like)
so many people have been helpful to me, i thought i would return the favor.
so that people dont have to get into their .ini files and mess with things that some might not understand, or just dont feel like doing, my first file upload here is a .zip with the modified .ini files (and the original .ini's just in case they overwrite theirs) as well as a .pr0 profile for Saitek's SST profiling software for the X-52 (which is a monster to program, takes forever)
i dont claim to be the best at setting up profiles, but i feel that ive dont a decent job. i have all three modes, one for general flight, one for complex commads (menu shortcuts, like the different autopilots, etc) and then combat. in all modes but combat, the middle joytick hat controls the menu with the two blue buttons beside it being confirm/cancel. using this setup the throttle should function normally, and the hat on the throttle will control your thrusters. the two buttons on the throttle are for forward and reverse thrust. when the precision slider is pushed all the way up, it engages manual LDS. a few cheat functions have been mapped to the pinkie shift key with various buttons (which i tried very hard to make everything make sense) the toggle switches on the joystick do double duty. each one flipped up maxes out power settings for weapons, shields or engines, while flipping the middle one down resets power distribution. aim assist toggle is the weapon power toggle pressed downwards, and flight assist is the engine power toggle pressed downwards.
i wont lst all the commands here, but i hope this helps some people out. personally, i have NEVER gotten a downloaded profile to actually map the keys its supposed to, i just end up with a blank setup. however even if that is what happens to you with my file, dont worry. half the work is still done, as yo will have ALL the in game commands PRE-PROGRAMMED into the profile, and you need only right click the box of the button you want to map and select the game command for it.
i also threw a little extra bone in there in the form of information about hard light productions and freespace 2. basically, you get awesome graphics, a great game, tons of content (over 1000+ of playtime on NEW missions) and its all free.

anyway, i hope this helps out a few people at least, and i welcome others to post files here that will help the folks who have purchased this great game out, given that it has a few problems that while easily fixed, can seem daunting to someone who doesnt know a lot about how games work.
i believe that when you recieve something, you should give something back, and this is my attempt to do just that here.
i can vouch for the safety o this file (its basically just 4 text files (5 counting the readme) and a .pr0 file (pr0file, lol @saitek) for your joystick.
if you are worried about downloading something from megaupload, just message me, and i will see if i can get the stuff to you in a way you are more comfortable with.

hope this helps, and if anyone has any other files that would help, get 'em up here. (and anyone willing to, feel free to create a similar topic for I-War 1)
thanks again to the helpful people here at this board, and i hope this in turn will help someone else.

the link for the modified .ini files (with instructions) and the saitek x52 profile is here:

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! using the two dials and the precision slide on the control profile here can cause windows to act funky. if this happens, turn the dials or the slider down. right now, the profile makes the command essentially repeat over and over, like a key is held down. im working around with this overly complicated SST software to fix the problem so that the commands only activate once, but for the time being, just keep that in mind. you can either remove the commands in the profiler, or if you know what to do, please do so. in the meantime, i will work on improving the functionality of the profile, and post an update as soon as i get a good setup. i will also post the info here on how to fix the dials/slider commands so that they dont continually activate, so that you dont have to download anything else. i will update this with a fix and new files shortly. im also searching to find a way to enable the cheats without having the command dialog in the bottom left and the fps count in the top right. if this is too annoying for you, go back into flux.ini and scroll to near the bottom, and on the command that reads director mode = 1 set it to 0 and save the ini file. however this (if i am not mistaken) also disables the cheats. everything in life seems to be a trade off, eh?

Enjoy!

Just bumping to see if you still have your profile that you could re-upload?

Karl
wow. well, megaupload kinda had it coming to them...

i will see if i can find a different site to host the profiles. might take me a bit, as i have since changed computers, and i will have to locate the disk that i backed up all my x52 files and game configs on.

I appreciate it :)

The only change I think I want is one I couldn't get the first time I tried. I want the thrusters linked to the hat switch on the throttle.

Hey there,

I think I've gotten my profile sorted now however I have a question about Toggle 5. I'll pinched the idea Toggle Up = Full Weapons. My problem is that this also open the GUI menu system. The other toggles don't however.

Any ideas?

Karl
sounds like a key conflict. (ie one key mapped to two functions.) I know it can be a real pain sometimes, especially with a stick with as many buttons, sliders, hatswitches, triggers, toggles and never mind the 3 separate modes. Add to that the numerous commands available in a space sim, and you are just begging for a headache and hours of head scratching.

im not sure if i totally understand your problem, but it sounds like you are saying that just that one toggle switch causes both the gui AND full weapons to trigger simultaneously?

if thats the case, check to see what your keybindings are for the GUI, and what they are for full weapons.
sometimes there can be a conflict.
for instance, both could be set to F5 (just as an example). then you would just need to change the bindings in the game to something thats unused, and change the profile to match.

another possibility is that you have both commands triggered by SIMILAR keys. an example of this would be that (still using the F5 example) you have F5 as your GUI key, and Shift+F5 as your weapon power to full key.

what can happen in this situation is that the stick might be programmed to emulate the keyboard using Shift+F5, but there may be a short break between the two keys being pressed. it could be just a few milliseconds, but enough that that game recognizes the shift being pressed, but at the same time registering the F5 as a separate key.

the smart technology profiler has some options relating to how the key presses are recorded. you can set the time between key presses manually, or auto set it to 0. (its been a little while since i fiddled around with my settings, as i haven't found any new space sim like games that i would enjoy playing (damn the stupid newtonian physics trend! i want dogfights! not games of chicken where you frantically shoot as you come into range, then spend 5 minutes lining up your pass again! Its a game, it should be fun and exciting! screw reality!!! ).
the result being that i have probably become a bit rusty with the profiler, and i KNOW im rusty with the x-52. Ive been using a Saitek ST290PRO, with a logitech dual analog gamepad sitting next to it as my extra buttons and functions. it works very well, not to mention that the ST290PRO has a lot more resistance on the joystick, so it doesnt "flop" around like a flaccid pen..... anyway, its not as floppy as the x52. It seems to give me a lot more control and precision that way.

but i digress.
If these solutions dont help you, please let me know. there is always a third possibility, of which i am quite familiar with. Your stick could just be broken, or the toggle switch is malfunctioning. you can test this with a simple check of the sticks properties in the device manager, where you will be able to see if the on-screen toggle switch lights up when pressed.
I saved and bought a brand new X52 about a year and a half ago. when i recieved it, i plugged it in, and my tribulations began. the stick would light up for a moment, then go dead. the throttle would stay recognized. i bought a new connection cable, but still no luck. i researched for well over 20 hours every post on the net i could find. i tried all the suggestions. reinstalled drivers, edited the registry, removed the HID entry for the stick which i had to do with a special program, i even opened the stick up and inspected the wiring and soldered connections... bottom line, nothing worked.

so i was left with the sad reality that all those posts i read about how half the sticks they had purchased were defective. So, i returned the stick (via mail, long, long waits... my games called to me, but i could not answer....)
finally they send me back another stick! i open it, go through the set up process and VIOLA! it worked! the lights stayed on, the stick registered!
So, excitedly, i set up all my controls, (4 hours of work!) and i boot up my game.
Then i screamed.
The left and right axes were reversed. Only two of my toggle switches worked. and only in the down position. my mouse nub (on the throttle) was going nuts, sending my pointer all over the screen, even without touching it. and if i switched the mode from the original green mode, to either yellow or red, the entire stick would die.
at this point i was ready to give up, but the company told me they were just going to refund me, and not to bother sending the stick back.
i made one final attempt to get an x52. I bought one on ebay. the ad stated that the stick "seemed" to work fine, but that the owner never had the patience to program it, and just wanted to get most of his money back so he could get a simpler stick.
1 week later, it arrived, in a dented box that looked very wet. there was no packaging, just some styrofoam peanuts. the stick was upside down, bent all the way over, with the throttle jammed on top of it.
I was sure that it would be broken, given the condition of the stick in the box, and the wetness and torn up nature of the package.
but i figured what the hell, and gave it a try.
before this becomes a novel about my love/hate relationship with saitek's x52, let me skip to the end.
I now have a 98% functional x52.
I had to use the throttle from the replacement stick (the one with the malfunctioning joystick) and the beat up joystick from my ebay purchase, as these were the only two functional pieces i had.
right now my mouse on throttle does not have an x axis (left and right), the missile button cover is broken off of the stick, and the stick lays to one side when not held. also the dial around the large button on the throttle only registers turning in one direction.
but i was not about to try getting another stick.
not even if my life depended on it.
i have one that works "GOOD ENOUGH" and that is enough for me, given how many horror stories are to be found on the web about how many x52's people have to go through to get a working one.

i tell you this story, because i want you to understand that the x52 is a very complicated stick, which at the time of its making, used some cutting edge features, and experimental hardware. unfortunately, despite its high tech features, it has a clunky heavy feel to it and both the stick and throttle would pass for accessories for a beta-max tape player. and to make matters worse, it appears that they send the assembly of the sticks to student electricians. and not to the honor roll students either....
the massive ammount of mistakes in the wiring make me believe that they sent the sticks to be assembled by the summer school class of the D ranked students at a mentally handicapped school for amputees.

Taking all of that into consideration (even my exaggerations and attempts at humor) it is sadly, quite possible that if the first two ideas dont fix your problem, then it might be your stick that is the problem.
but before you give up, definately check the key bindings.

(apologies for the xtra long reply. i get extremely verbose and my punctuation suffers horribly when i am THIS tired.

oh well, hopefully you can forgive my near-short-story length of a post and find the nugget of wisdom in there that you can use to fix your stick. I ended up stopping Iwar2 right after i finally got to the open part of the story, and had just added a ton of mods that made the game much more fun (the radio mod is killer. my tracklist was totally appropriate for a space sim. savage garden- "to the moon and back", unknown female artist- "Major Tom", that newer song, "starships(are made to fly)" and of course, a little bit of spacey techno-ey stuff to just cruise to.) but sadly, a flood of killer xbox360 games came out and I was torn from my computer, to my gamepad in front of the bigscreen. (deus x, fallout new vegas, skyrim and many more) I'm just now getting back into the games.

please let me know if any of these ideas helped you out.
if not, please list a copy of your key config (in game) and your .pro file (profile, get it! lol) for your stick. you can post them here or send them to my email, which i will post below with lots of spaces and stuff, so that search engines cannot steal my email addy and load me up with spam.

just put it all together. and ignore the *'s and of course the ATat stuff is for "AT/@"

anyway, im gonna stop here before i fall asleep with my head on the keyboard.
i hope this helps you out (if you can manage to read through it) ;-P
