Cant get GOG to give me a refund for this game. The game wont work on my system running windows 8.1 and the support person is asking me to prove it by uploading a video of the game! WTF!? If this keeps up they can cram my $10.00 where the sun don't shine and I'll stick with modern games.

"How does it work?
If, within 30 days after the purchase of your game, you experience technical problems or game-breaking bugs that prevent you from finishing your game, contact our customer support. They will do their best to help you fix the problem and if, at the end of their attempts to solve the problem your game is still not working, we'll give you back your money."

Yes I have tried his generic fixes and links to microsoft. I have purchased other games and these work fine.

Maybe give the instructions in This Guide a shot? I realize it's for IWD2, but should apply for IWD1 as well. Just don't bother with patching (the GOG version is up to date) and no mods until you can get it running.

You may also want to grab DirectX9, as not all the components of DX9 are included in DX11 (which is what I believe is installed with Win8 by default).

Thanks I'll give it a try but to be honest at this point I feel I have exhausted all avenues.

Yeah, I hope it works out for you. I know some people have reported they can get it working on Win8, so there's hope. If all else fails, I can't see why GOG wouldn't refund your money.
What are you running AMD or Intel? I have an AMD machine running 8.1 and it installed and runs fine, except that I had to install the widescreen mod. I ran the installer as Admin. The program is running as Admin in XP Service Pack 3 mode.

The game resides in C:\GOG Games\ Icewind Dale Complete.

If you recently updated to 8.1, you may need to update your graphics driver. I have an HP machine and went onto their site and downloaded the update, I think it was dated November, 2013. Upgrading to 8.1 changed the AMD interface and removed many choices.

Good luck.
Yeah, definitely check the drivers. I'm running 8.1 with an AMD card. Just installed IWD and had no problems at all.
I am running on a Dell Venue 11 pro Tablet windows 8.1 Intel Bay Trail Quad 1.5ghz 64GB SSD Intel HD Graphics so my system is a bit unique. I run my games from a SanDisk 64GB USB 3.0 thumb drive high speed 190mb per second. Works great on all my old school games except this one.

They are giving me a refund finally

I'm glad you got your refund. It's a shame it does not work, IWD1 is one of the best IMO.

I know that's why I ordered it! lol oh well between Steam and GOG I am having a blast. Baulders gate II works fine so go figure why IWD had issues.
