tl;dr can I see stat modifiers in the inventory screen?

Playing this for the first time. Just played TOEE.

I am stumped at the interface for inventory. In TOEE I could see whether to equip an axe or a short sword easily because the display told me the hit modifiers etc as I was equipping items. But so far in this game I an unable to do that. I have to equip the axe. Go to a new screen, make sure I am on the right tab. check the modifiers. Go to a new screen to see feats, etc.

Good people, is this insane amount of clicking avoidable (apart by pouring over the rulebook)?

It's quite simple: right click on any item in the inventory to see it's stats, description etc.

Learn the shortcut keys. Press "I" for inventory and "R" for the stats of your character. Just one click from the inventory to stats. Otherwise, description of an item tells you all you need to know (except for the resulting Thaco which, as just mentioned, you can immediately see by pressing R)

It all works fine and is pretty fast.

Thanks for the help. It still feels clunky to me as a first timer, but I see why these games are loved. My party has crushed the first town and all I've done is just select all and beat down the goblins one at a time. I am sure there is more nuance to the battle system to come...
