Hello everyone,

I had started the game a few times so I know that you create your party in both games before starting the game. And I know that there are not any NPC companions like in BG games. My question is, if I decide to start the game with 4 characters, can I add an other character later in the game?

I am not going to start the game now but that question stuck in my mind last night.

Tnx.

Yes. Go to the character arbitration screen before starting the game proper to add/remove any player/s you wish.
Note, however, that in Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition, you can't access Character Arbitration in singleplayer when loading your save; you need to copy the save to the multiplayer folder, load it there, create your new characters, and then copy the save back.

Also, in Icewind Dale 2, there is a major exploit that you may need to cheat in order to avoid it; if you have high and low level characters adventuring together, the entire party (including the high level characters) will get far more XP than they would if you only had the high level characters in the party. If you do not want that, you need to use the cheat console to set your new characters' XP totals to an amount comparable to that of your old characters' XP, then level them up before you start adventuring. (It tells you something when the use of cheats is needed to prevent the game from becoming easier than intended.) Note that this issue does not affect IWD1; a new character will reach a decent level quickly (if done before level 10 or so), and the old characters won't earn more XP than intended.
Thank you both. Now extra question. Would you advise classic or EE editions of IWD1 for a first time player. I finished BG1 on both classic and EE (and BGT mod) and I have to say EE was not as bad as I thought it would be. What would you say about IWD?
