Honoring the time-honored tradition of crpgs, I loot everything I can & take it back to town to sell for gold. But my slots fill up pretty quick by doing so & I end up spending alot of time traveling & coming back to where I left off.

I've found a number of containers along the way, can I just store my loot in those & not have it disappear on me?

I'm not sure if they persist or not. Worth experimenting for one run, but I highly recommend modding your game with infinite stackable items and infinite bags of holding. I did that with mine and it really is worth it for the incurable packrat. :p
From what I recall just about every container in the game is persistent and doesn't reset, so whatever you last left in a container will be there where you return. The only thing to watch out for is instances where an area becomes blocked off to you, meaning of course that you can't reach any containers there that you stored stuff in.
