I finally was able to get this installed through getting the serial key, which I couldnt get through the GOG galaxy app, but through the mobile website. On top of the fact that I ahd to jump through that hoop, when I finished installing this and started playing i noticed it uses the graphics from Baldurs Gate 2, so it clearly isnt the original version of IWD. I am furious, and I want to know if theres any chance in hell I can play a digital version of the original because this it si unacceptable to have to work this hard just to play it....

I'm also currently playing Icewind Dale Complete, downloaded from gog.com.

It is in fact the original Icewind Dale (with the Heart of Winter expansion, as well as the other Trials of the Luremaster expansion).

When you say "it uses the graphics from Baldur's Gate 2", do you mean the screen resolution?

With the HoW expansion, better screen resolutions (among other enhancements) were added to the game.

Can you clarify what is making you believe that this is not the original IWD?

Are you sure you have not installed the Enhanced Edition? You sound like you are talking about the classic version but I do not see any difference. CFM may be correct about this.

I believe the problem is the character animations change that was introduced with Heart of Winter from BG1 to BG2 ones, which to this day I don't understand either, since BG2 character animations are inferior.

Anyway, you can restore BG1 character animations with 1pp mod that I mentioned in a similar thread not long ago:

I can assure you the Icewind Dale that Gog has is the original one. I own the disc version plus the Heart of Winter add-on disc and what they sell here is the same thing, plus Trials of the Luremaster. If you see something different then as was suggested, maybe it's the enhanced edition but I can't confirm as I've never played that for either IWD, BG, or BG2. But I had IWD from and and to me, it seems the same as the disc version I have.
