I know that the game doesn't come with online multiplayer, but I know it should be possible with programs like Tunngle and Hamachi that let you play Online using a virtual LAN.

Has anyone tried this and got it working.

I've tested a normal LAN at my friends house, and my house as well, and it works fine. At home (and my friend as well) I port forwarded for Tunngle and tried turning off my firewall to test it, and still couldn't connect via the Virtual LAN.

Just wondering if anyone had similar issues and figured out a fix.

Edit: After doing a bit more research, apparently there's a program called GameRanger that people use that seems to work. I have to wait until my friend wakes up to test it, but I will certainly say if it works in this thread. :)

If you don't want to use a service like GameRanger, e.g. for LAN multiplayer, there might be another solution.

The game used the IPX protocol for communication, which isn't supported since Vista anymore. But there are IPX wrappers out there. When you install one, you can setup a regular IPX session in Icewind Dale. The wrapper takes the IPX calls and translates them to UDP which is supported by any Windows version. Incoming packages are retranslated to IPX so Icewind Dale thinks it's working with IPX.

Run the game as Administrator to circumvent some problems.
I did end up using Gameranger and it works well for our purposes, so I support it completely. But thanks for the responses!
You're welcome. Good to know Gameranger works well.
