1st .. I'm stuck

I got as far as fighting the 'odd small girl' & no way can my party beat her & party, I've tried a few times

. She is the last thing I need to do at dragons eye before I can move on ( at least I think so, the map looks cleared)

So WHAT am I supposed to do?
I've tried resting a few times so I get attacked to get more xp, & maybe lvl up a bit .. but it seems a tedious way to go about things ..
There MUST be a better way?

2nd ..At the start .. is it best to fight a few rounds, to lvl up a bit,
& then to export your party - start a new game - import your party .. so you then have higher lvls to begin with & that will make the game less difficult?

3rd .. I'm a 'gaming granny' so a bit of a technophobe .. if I need help with my mobile phone I ask a 4 year old .. get the picture? :)

Now I KNOW there are cheats out there & I would dearly LOVE to get more gold to buy me some better gear
I NEVER have enough gold :(

Could someone PLEASE make a step by step guide for DUMMIES on how to get into the game files & how to edit them?

Many thanks
Em

A somewhat spoilerific answer (but I figure you're open to that at this point): you need a +2 or better weapon (+2 or better ammo for ranged weapons) to damage the little girl at all. I generally retreat into the rooms just before hers. The ones in the north of the corridor just in front of her room. That way i can lay out a good brew of area effect spells to help kill off her minions.

What's the make-up of your party (classes and levels)? Knowing what you have to work with will help a lot in suggesting a strategy as well.

You could do that, but you shouldn't need to. This game is all about tactics, so if you get the hang of the different classes' abilities you should be fine. However, if you are finding it too difficult, there's nothing wrong with importing stronger characters or just turn down the difficulty level to an easier setting.

Use the console. To open it, press both TAB and CTRL at the same time. You'll see the console open at the bottom of your screen. Then, to add gold, just type in

GETYOURCHEATON:AddGold("number")

where "number" is the amount of gold you want to give your party, and press Enter. So, if you want to give them 500,000 gold, you'd type in:

GETYOURCHEATON:AddGold(500000)

Make sure you do it exactly as I've done it, as it's case and space sensitive.

Hope that helps. :)

That "odd little girl" is not the enemy. Get to the end of the last level of Dragon's Eye and you'll meet her one last time and learn the truth about her. Once she reveals her true self, then you can kill her (but you need +2 weapons or better to hit).

As for the debug menu, you should have a Config icon in your Icewind Dale menu folder. Open it, go to the Game tab, then select "Enable Cheat Console". Hit the OK button to close the window, and enter the game. And as Coelocanth stated, once you start playing hit [CTRL]+[TAB] to open a window at the bottom of the screen, then type (this is the correct entry) GETYOURCHEATON:AddGold(500000) to add 500,000gp to your party treasure. You can get a list of other cheat commands at GameFAQS.com along with some good walk-throughs (I recommend Dan Simpson's).

Well, actually it is her... heh.

Crap! Good catch on that one. I'll edit my previous post. +1 for noticing.
Thanks to Coelocanth for your reply

Here is my party & lvls :-

Fighter .. lvl 8
Paladin .. lvl 8
Cleric .. lvl 9
Thief .. lvl 11
Ranger .. lvl 8
Bard .. lvl 11

All are 'good' & now think that may have been a mistake as had to give up 2 nice items of equipment as they can't be used by 'good' characters :(

But after my experiences in Balders Gate, I found mixing good & evil characters can be difficult, they started to kill each other .. maybe one truly neutral might be the answer?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------

Thanks also to grogerson ..

great tip re the config .. I did that & can now open cheats in game .. yayyy?

No, not yayyy ..

I tried it & got the message 'NICE TRY CHEATER' but nothing happened :(

Typed it in exactly as shown ..
do I need to be in town or something for it to work?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------

Thanks again to both you guys for your time & patience :)

Just a quick reply, as I'm heading to bed. No, you don't need to be anywhere specific for the cheats to work. You can do it anywhere, but if that cheat code doesn't work, instead of GETYOURCHEATON, try CHEATERSDOPROSPER, but the former should be the one that works on the GOG version.
P.S

Yeh, sorry, the cheat thing was MY mistake, I missed out the R
Now I have gold .. lovely :)

As for weapons I think I have plus 2s .. here is what my characters have :-

Fighter - Erevans Broad Sword
Damage - 2D4 + 2
THACO - +2

Paladin - Battle Axe +2 Defender
Damage - 1D8 +2
THACO +2

Cleric - Sling .. & Conlans Hammer

Thief - Sling .. & Presarios Dagger
Damage - 1D4 +2 .. Poison

Ranger - Messenger Of Seth (with + 2 arrows)
& Fast Flail +2

Bard - Sling (with + 2 bullets)
& Hammer flail +2
Damage 1D6 +3
THACO - +2

What do you think?

You have the gear for the job. Noe buff your characters (Haste, Prayer etc) and kick that little girl's ass.
As an alternative to cheating for cash, if your party leader had high CHA when you shop, you get better prices. Your paladin should be perfect for that unless another char has better CHA.
The battle will be tougher with the party you have, since you don't have an arcane caster that can lay down strong AoE spells. The best strategy with that party is probably to buff up your party beforehand with whatever spells your bard and cleric have, then once combat is initiated pull your party back to one of the side rooms and use the door as a choke point (block it off with your fighter and paladin, while the rest of your party provides ranged support). If your cleric has any AoE offensive spells then you might consider using them. Try to pull away and take out all of the minions before engaging the marilith, as she can do some serious damage in melee.
Thanking everyone who posted for all the help & advice

I cracked it :D

The little girl is toast .. & no fatalities on my side either, which is a bonus

Thanks again for all the support

Kind regards
