Gets stuck on "Hotline Miami" screen in windows. Got it to open a couple times after loading for minutes. Main menu works fine then I start a new game and the screen is all flickery with random error window popping up. Can move character around but the screen is distorted so it's unplayable. Any suggestions? I'm on a crappy Dell M140. This shouldn't be a factor though, I can play many other GOG games with no issues, plus Cactus's other games. Something isn't right and it seems like the solution is simple and within my grasp Any help is appreciated.
I'm also having similar issues. Hopefully it's something they can fix with a patch.
Hopefully. Might just have to be patient.

Hotline Miami is working on my Win7 x64 system.

But here's the list of C++ redistributables I have: http://i.imgur.com/2TETS.png

If the Visual C++ 2010 SP1 x86 is not working, get the x64 (if your system is a x64 (64 bit) one) too here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523

If it doesn't work, and you can't wait to play it, you can always install (or "repair", or reinstall, depending on your current system) the other version of VC++ redistributables.

- VC++ 2010 <span class="bold">x86</span>

- VC++ 2010 <span class="bold">x64</span>

The 2008 version (shouldn't be needed, but "who knows ?"):

- VC++ 2008 <span class="bold">x86</span>
- VC++ 2008 SP1 <span class="bold">x86</span>

- VC++ 2008 <span class="bold">x64</span>
- VC++ 2008 SP1 <span class="bold">x64</span>

The 2005 version (shouldn't be needed, but hell if you've got the time and can't wait):
- VC++ 2005 <span class="bold">x86</span>
- VC++ 2005 SP1 <span class="bold">x86</span>

- VC++ 2005 <span class="bold">x64</span>
- VC++ 2005 SP1 <span class="bold">x64</span>

...

If it's still bugging, the other redistributables you might want to try are the .Net Framework ones (NB: I do NOT know if Hotline Miami is using it, it's just that it's pretty common in games, for UI stuff mostly if I recall correctly).

=> You'll need to install .NET Framework 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 (with the right or both x64/x86 versions, and Service Pack if there's any).

I won't post all the links since Google (or the Microsoft Download Center search engine) can do that perfectly, and it shouldn't be needed to run Hotline Miami (as far as I know ).

...

ps: I am NOT related in any way with the developers (Cactus & Denis Wedin) or the publisher (Devolver Digital), or GOG.com.

=> I just had to deal with recurrent .NET Framework and VC++ issues several times in the last 6 months because of indie developers not correctly using these assets.

ps 2: Installing these redistributable shouldn't bork your computer or your capacity to launch and play other games, but I'm not responsible if you have to reinstall some "custom" redistributables again after installing the Microsoft-official ones I linked.

=> The worst that can happen is having a game lagging or crashing when launching, requiring to re-run the redistributables the developers provided with the game (if you need to do that, these devs are bad people, preventing thousands of other applications and games to run correctly on their users computers).

...

Final words: Good luck !

And don't forget they're currently working on the next patch right now, it should be there in 12-to-24 hours. The game is really fun, it's worth waiting and/or installing some Visual C++ stuff =)

No luck with anything yet. Thanks for all the help though. Guess I'll have to wait on the update. Any word on when that might come to GOG?

Also keep getting this error at the start of a new game:

Had my most successful play through first couple levels, but with the "rolling black bars" graphic glitch that others have reported, with floors missing. Hopefully will be fixed in patch.
I had some success running the game as administrator.

Okay, I managed to fix the error with help from the steam community forums.

Click on the start icon, type in services.msc, find the printer spooler process and disable it. My error was a crash on startup with the message files seem to be corrupt.
