My monitor is an Element brand at 1920/1080, connected with an HDMI cable. It does not support HDR. Is that a problem with the game? Nothing at all happens after double clicking the desktop icon or even the game.exe.

I can't help with that HDMI / HDR question, but I understand you have difficulties getting the game to lauch. Maybe you ran into the same issue I had a while ago with Skyrim SE. I had to add it to the list of apps not blocked by Windows Ransomware Protection.

HDR in any current game is *optional*--not required. That would have nothing to do with your blank screen. Did you use Galaxy to revert to an earlier patch yet--or did you update to the 1.09 patch and get better results?

What's your OS, your GPU, etc.? No one can begin to help you without that information.
Right from the very start, nothing works. An online test of my setup failed at the minimum requirements. I still don't understand why the game won't at least start. I have this uneasy feeling that the solution is many $$$$$. This is a good racket to get gamers to upgrade in order to play a game that's really an interactive movie.
Setting HDR on causes game to crash to desktop for me, and once it's set.. it crashes on launch every time.

verify and repair fixed it once, but I'm in a bad loop now, starting from gog crashes every time now.

Latest drivers for system (everything).

WIn 10 64 bit enterprise 20H2 with all patches
3090 GTX with latest nvidia drivers (via geforce experience)
2TB nvme m.2 (pcie) (game installed on this)
2TB 7200 RPM SATA III disk drive (only used for backups/etc)
2 x 4TB samsung 860 pro (think it's 860's)
128GB 3200 MhZ memory
Alienware R11
i9 10900KF
bunch of usb stuff (kbd, spinny drives, 3x 2TB usb 3.2 SSDs (samsung T7)
logitech G502 with powerplay, hero sensor, and lightspeed
das keyboard X50Q
5.1 surround
gog galaxy up to date
4k asus ROG 144Hz primary monitor
4k asus 60Hz secondary monitor

Suspecting I'll have to find and disable HDR manually

Game defaults to borderless 4k, and I'm getting 70-100 FPS

Going to verify/repair and try a reboot
