As the title says, I gave up on the game as I'm stuck in the frozen wilds boss fight.

I'm level 50th, quite decent gear but the boss is just too painful.
After lots of deaths my potions are exhausted as other resources. This is not fun nor enjoyable.
I didn't put higher difficulty as I know that, with age, I have no patience.

Either way I don't really understand why games needs descend in such non-sense.

It wasn't easy, but on the PS4 I managed on normal difficulty to do it with a controller (I was age 44 back then), with mouse it should be a lot easier. I am looking forward to try it again,
And don't make the same mistake I made first time: I forgot that I oculd slow down time by jumping or sliding ... I finished the whole game without doing that even once on purpose. It would have made it so much easier ...

It helps to switch armor during the fight. Use the shield armor until it's depleted, then switch to the Carja armor that supports 3 coils.
And well ... it IS the endboss fight and supposed to be the hardest fight in the game, the one where your best gear has a purpose. I found the hunting ground challenge a lot more frustrating.

Who knows, this time now that I have some practice and still have fresh memory how to avoid damage in most cases I might even go for the NG+ hard mode after that.

edit: btw, you can always load an autosave shortly before the boss fitght, when you still had full potions instead of trying again until they are all gone.

I'm coming up[ 72. Current level 549 newgameplus. So I have some of the best gear not THE best. As I can't be stuffed with the hunting lodge quests. Too finnicky/fiddly. I do some in the early game. More farming for blaze.

I ignored everything and hammered it with Aratak's icerail's ice spray (Not, the Varga upgrade projectile.). Took a recharge to do it on story. (Possibly) Like you I have to spend time in pause to get over the RSI pain.

It's a shame 1st game I've ever played on super easy. Every other game is on normal/average.

When I checked the damage across all levels the difference between the ones above story are minimal.
No normal/average setting just tough, tougher, and toughest. From memory (faulty) about 150-ish point spread. Story my sharpshot has 1000 hitpoints in story. Tripple arrow shot 3000 hitpoints.

I can't be bothered doing the higher levels. Takes too long. And in real life you'd be hammered for such inefficient shooting and willful pain to the animal. And be band from every hunting trip. :-)

Darn good game. Shame it's not the true open world, I was expecting after playing Witcher 3. I didn't expect to see signs about you can't go there. Or ledges that were just sheets of glass with a ledge pic on it. Died on many of those. :-)

As a game tourist I like the high places to stay and watch the weather and scenery. Appreciate the world the programmers created. I've bunny hopped up some of the tallest peaks in Skellige just to watch the sun/-rise/set

It's what makes modern games special. The view.

Witcher 3 is still top for me. But Horizon Zero Dawn is a close 2nd.
And Witcher 3 screwed up with Deitlaff. 9 times to kill him before he was dead. And one hit from him and your gone. Now that was over the top. :-)

Just hope I can stay alive long enough to see forbidden west arrive on pc. :-)

Cheers.
Thanks both.

I finally manage to defeat the boss.
The main "trick" that actually allowed me to defeat it with ease was learning how to dodge the fire claws attack.

Just face the boss all the time and when it start swining his claws, roll between the legs.
As simple as that.
After that he roll-jump on you: that is an easy dodge. Just wait until he jumps and long-roll away.

With these two tricks, you don't need any special equipment or whatever.

Still, I found the whole fight very frustrating and not something I enjoyed.
It was a low mark in the game, in my opinion.

Dodging is good :)
