Cant run the game at all.

Wont Boot.

Went to BBI and they just gave me the run around saying it was the overlay. It is most definitely not the overlay.

Can someone here help me?

This is what I posted on their FB page:

"Hey guys. Just installed DOK. Cant run it. Went to the BBI tech help forums and the guys there keep trying to pass the buck and give me the run around. They keep trying to blame the GOG overlay when it isn't even enabled! They are of no actual help and waiting for days just to have someone tell me its a box thats checked in the overlay is seriously irritating and grating. Can someone please help me figure out the real reason why DOK isn't booting up? The screen goes black for a few seconds before popping back to the desktop like I'd never clicked the game shortcut. No Error Message. Nothing. I haven't the foggiest idea what the issue is, but I have no problems with Starcraft 2 and MWO."

I got this reply from BBI after a couple of weeks:

"From your log there seems to be an issue with the client loading the GalaxyCSharpGlue.dll. This file is exclusive to the GoG client; the GoG client for DoK was made by GoG and Gearbox, so unfortunately we don't have any insight as to why it is not loading on your system."

Anyone have any insight on this issue?

I have encountered a similar problem on my surface 4 pro and windows 10. After the installation the game starts (icon appeared on the task bar) and immediately gets terminated. I have found on one of the forums an advice to play with administrator settings but it did not improve the situation. The weird thing is that I have tried to install the game (also via Galaxy) on my aged Dell M6300 with windows 10 and all works as it supposed to (well low setting all around but , hey beggars cant be choosers). I know that this comment does not help much but I think the issue is actually on the hardware side. There must be some incompatibility here.

I was actually thinking it was on the hardware side myself but I dont know where to start looking.
My laptop runs other games just fine. It isnt like this game is THAT CPU/Memory intensive in comparison to always online MMOS.

I have downloaded and installed the game separately from GOG and again with GOG galaxy and with overlay disabled. I had the same issue both times.

Since gearbox edited the game for gog according to BBI, I have no clue where to start looking. I'm almost tempted to buy the steam version and try that out instead.
I'm not sure if this applies but I have seen a substantial numbers of complains towards the optimization of the code. HDoK according to these opinions was struggling and causing crashes also on modern computers with good graphics cards. Even so gearbox ws not putting much effort to rectify this situation. It would be nice to have someone form GOG to respond to this issue...

Over a year later, even after a new patch, and still nothing? Moved to a new computer, clean reinstall, now the game doesn't work. Process launches, runs for a second, then stops, without ever actually opening a game window.
Same problem here.
Tried run as administrator or launch without GOG Galaxy. Still not working.
Same problem here.

I did further research and found a forum post. I can't post any links at this moment.
Search via google this: homeworld deserts of kharak Fallback handler could not load library

The first entry named "Won a copy of DOK from Fists of Heaven..." leads to a forum of BBI.

In one post it was suggested to reinstall MS Visual C++ 2012 Runtime.
I did an now the game starts to the Intro FMV and main menu (I try the game itself later).

Maybe this is the sollution for you guys.
Jaro1076, this worked like a charm! I've already launched the game and played through the first two missions, so I can confirm that it solved the issue for me. Thank you for posting this :)

All you really need to do is uninstall Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2012, 2013 and 2015 (if you have them installed) and then download and install them again (I also can't post any links, sorry).

You will need to install both 32bit and 64bit versions (download x86 and x64 executables).

Hope this helps someone.

Confirming that this worked for me. In addition, I had to run DesertsOfKharak.exe from the game folder instead of running from the GOG launcher. Running from the launcher gave a white-screen game lockup and process crash.

I only re-installed the 64-bit VC 2012 Runtime downloaded from MS.

Game works!!!
Uninstall and clean install of each VC Runtime, main menu loads, settings can be set, but actually starting the game still results in a crash and VC Runtime error. Running the game from Galaxy or the exe and as Administrator or normal user all result in the same crash.

Windows 10 Pro x64
Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
Core i7-6700
32GB RAM
After Visual Studio (x86, x64) 2012 and 2015 reinstallation and installation of VS 2013, DoK runs laglessly (low settings).

Hardware: AMD A8-4500M, 8GB RAM
OS: Windows 7 Pro
