Is anybody else playing the GOG Linux version via Lutris? What's the best way to update to the recent patch?

For Wine games, I'm used to the "run executable inside Wine prefix" approach, but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for the native Linux build.

Is the best way to just backup saves etc and reinstall from scratch?

Its easy enough on both Lutris and Heroic, see pictures with example of both:)
Right click ur game and 'install updates', is this not working for u?
If it gives ur an error its likely there either is no update, ur GOG lib hasnt been refreshed, or u alr have the latest version.
Maybe this can bug out too, usually it works fine for me. Also in Heroic its easy, same thing:)

Its posible if u have imported the game from Heroic for example, that it cant detect the updates b/c its not directly from GOG on Lutris,, im not too sure in that case then u might need to manually drag and drop or reinstall.
Otherwise easy peacy, for me so far at least! :)

To verify what version ur currently running on Lutris: right click game, browse files, find the file named gameinfo (main folder) and open it in a text editor and check the numbers (see image)
On Heroic u see the game version on the right side when u click ur game, and u have an option to update the game above ur 'play now' button.

The current latest version is 1.0.28561 vs the initial 1.0.28497 2 days ago, there was a few minor updates to it since.
GOG has the latest version.

Also, when removing/uninstaling a game in Lutris, u have the option to not 'delete files' which should then keep ur saved files, if u want evything gone then check that box too and not just 'from ur library'.
But back up ur save files manually always, just pop it on a remote drive somewhere in case ur pc burns down one day, since cloud saves dont work on Linux for both HC and Lutris, so make it a habit now and then!

Save file is located at, depending on what launcher and maybe system etc too im not sure, either in the drive c prefix folder in ur GOG game folder, ur wine prefix, or in my case, in my home/config/unity3d/teamcherry folder.
Or somewhere else perhaps, but start there ;D

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help! The 'right click > install updates' method wasn't working for me, it was throwing an error.

In the end, the way I did the update was:

1. Download GOG's latest Linux build (the .sh script).
2. Go to the Lutris game page for Silksong and hit the Install button, triggering Lutris to open the install dialog.
3. Give the Lutris installer the downloaded .sh file. Select the folder that Silksong is already installed in as the install location. Lutris will give a warning that it won't work correctly because there's already files in there, but ignore it.
4. When the game is finished installing, launch it the same way as before the update and it should just work, with the new build number appearing in the bottom left of the menu screen. The game save data from pre-patch should still be there when you hit 'Start game'.

I made a copy of ~/.config/unity2d/teamcherry folder before updating anyway, just in case something went wrong, but it wasn't necessary AFAICT.

Hope this helps someone else.
Hmm weird:s
Another way could also be to install it via HC and update it there first, HC is better and more reliable with updating since it has comet integration, ive never had issues there so far with the games I play myself.
Then after u can import game from the HC folder. I usually install via HC, then import to Lutris after and play with Lutris when I want more lightweight gaming vs HC which runs bit heavier with 'unecesary' stuff (store etc) tho sadly Lutris cant get achivements/playtime so its a bit of both for me:)

But whatever works for u :D
