So we managed to play the game with the PC version of HoW in online multiplayer in 2022! In order to play it multiplayer online with two distant computers you need Hamachi.
Just create a server from the computer who host the party with Hamachi.
Then allow Hamachi to go through your firewall (you need to go to the Firewall with advanced security settings>Action>Properties then go to Personnalized in Protected Network Connection from the three Profile tabs and in each of them unbox Hamachi).
If you want to know if it worked you can Right click on the other computer of your Hamachi network and try to Ping it. If the Ping works, then you are ok.
When you're done, go to multiplayer in your Hogs of War Game, then to IPX protocol, the hosting computer must click Host to host the game, then it would appear in the IPX menu of the other computer just after clicking on IPX in the multiplayer menu.
It worked for us, so it might work for you! Thank you Gog for implementing IPXWrapper :)
Enjoy!
You can allow game itself in Firewall.
Game always support TCP-IP - IPwrapper bundled with a game like it do for older games - mistake. Well, its not required to play online.

As for virtual LAN network - indeed using this a little bit helpful, make it a bit easy. Hamachi or RadminVPN.
(or GameRanger for some games, this one is not supported)

You need ot know proper IP adress of host PC to connect. Virtual LAN tools show it to you. If you use it you you should use this IP which one you can copy-paste. For real LAN or Internet TCP-IP connection you need host external IP address.

In the solution I gave, you don't even need to know the other PC IP adress, because we go through the IPX Protocol.
But yes I think it can works another way!
And pre-game chat room. Those programs need for some "modernisation".

Isnt it still can be played via TCP-IP? And im not sure Hamachi or else support IPX-IP. Are you sure about this step?

It also possible to play PS1 version online. But for multi PC version is a little bit better... of only without AI team. This bug-o-fature greatly affect skirmish\multiplayer, unlike it be for campaign (which one still balanced for "stand" AI).

Unfortunatly YT HoW streamers consider PC version compeltely unplayable. So i guess this thread created as answer to YT multiplayer videos

PS1 have no additonal features in online mode, but PC version still have some little improvments.
