Hi together,

I tried to extract the soundtrack from the game.
GOG does not provide it, so I tried hitmansoundtools.exe, a program I found in a forum, which didn't work and some program for MIDI Input that could handle a .dls file I found, but only tore it to pieces and couldn't reassamble it.
Can somebody help me?

Greetings

J

HitmanSoundTools only extracts the sound files (3174 !) of Hitman Codename 47, but not the music. You have to go to the tab labeled "HC 47", and the browse to the game's root directory for input (e.g. C:\GOG Games\Hitman Codename 47). It doesn't work if you select the "Music" subfolder.

As this little tool isn't able to extract the music, I think it's not so easy after all. It looks like the game uses midi files in addition with customized soundbanks (the .dls files). These banks probably only contain soundfragments used by the midi files to compose the music. It also looks like these midi files don't follow standards either. I'd say it's much easier to get the soundtrack via YouTube.

Yep.
That's probably true, though it's somewhat unsatisfying...
Anyway, thanks.

Bye!

All of this is correct. IIRC this stuff was cited by Jesper Kyd as the main reason why the Hitman: Codename 47 soundtrack was released much later on CD than the Hitman 2: Silent Assassin OST. Clearly even he had some trouble putting the music together into a format that can just be listened to.

And I'm not surprised that the music used an original format since the guy was a composer in the demo scene back in the 90's, he had probably been using original tracker formats years before he became a professional soundtrack composer.

Thanks for the interesting background info F4LL0UT!
I still hope that someday, GOG will just put the soundtrack up...
I have been successful in at least listening to the sountrack .sgt files with a program called DirectMusic Producer. The link to it is floating around the internet. It doesn't have an export function though, but with some creativity and Audacity it is possible to "record what you hear" and extract the soundtrack that way, worked out for me.
