I'm running a 5 year old AMD setup (DualCore fix installed) with an ATI crossfire Radeon setup.

The game runs far too fast to play. In addition, the speed seems to break the tutorial stage, not allowing you to interact with certain objects and triggers properly.

Halp?

Have you tried setting processor affinity, posted up how to do it :

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/hitman/anyone_tried_it_yet_on_windows_7/post11

You may want to disable one of those graphics cards also and have it run on one VGA card.

I've never had processor affinity make so much as a dent in performance unless I was using a really processor intensive app like a CAD or other graphics program. I tried it just now as a test however and it made no difference whatsoever.

Also, disabling graphics hardware doesn't affect the speed of the game since that's generally tied to CPU clock speed. GPU clockspeed only affects an increase in the frames drawn, not the speed of the game itself.

Thanks for the reply though. Any other suggestions? I have not tried a CPU-slowdown tool yet because I was waiting for GOG support to recommend one that they would support (or give me an option for it that might be built into their releases, since earlier games used dosbox).

The affinity fix works and is needed for the dark engine games Thief 1&2 and System Shock 2, was worth a shot. Will get my thinking cap on and see if I can come up with something else.

This program could do the trick :

There is also this one if chipset is not supported by the one above :

I'm afraid the CPU-slowdown tool might be the only solution. Speed issue has been around for years and there is no proper fix around. I doubt GOG community will manage in that either and I really doubt GOG.com will be doing anything about it since they had the guts to release it here in this state... Here are some fixes that might help if you are lucky:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1709110
EDIT: well what I explain below doesn't work anymore (or er, very randomly). Maybe still worth a try, if nothing alse works.

I don't think it's an issue with the CPU speed (or not only, at least). I ran the game some time ago on my laptop (with a Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz) and all was fine. Now that I've updated my GPU's divers (ATi, but I read about the same issue with nVidia somewhere), the game indeed runs too fast. It reminds me of an issue I had with Severance, which I had to "limit" with V-Sync forced and any software able to cap FPS.

And I found a topic here : http://www.hitmanforum.com/index.php/topic/38304-faq-hitman-c47-is-running-too-fast/

... where someone points to the same solution, by using a software called FPS Limiter (which requires Java). His link is dead, but you can find it here : http://www.fsx-online.com/comment/17

It's a French FSX website, the download is just above the social networks icons ("FPS Limiter v0.2").
I've tried it in D3D and OpenGL modes - the second gives the best results, by far (as usual with OpenGL ?). So set Hitman to run in OpenGL first, then quit. Then:

- Unzip the software,
- run "FPS_Limiter_GUI.jar"
- select OGL (OpenGL)
- "search executable"
- find hitman.exe => open
- maximum FPS : 30 (you could try any lower number between that and 25 I think)
- click "create bat" => close software
- find the new .bat file and run it ! (let it in the folder, if you move it the paths written in the file will be wrong). You can create a shortcut, of course.

In my experience, the game runs fine (apart from some lines in the tutorial, but if I'm not mistaken it was a bit buggy originally too). The cutscenes look slow enough, and the game is perfectly playable - I've tested some events in the first mission too (cars, helicopter arriving on site). So, for now, it seems to work... Hope this will help !

Thank you for all your replies.

Oddly enough, simply enabling the console fixes the issues. It's one of the oddest things I've seen in my gaming-life, but I'll take it.

Thank you again.

Nope, didn't do a thing. 47 still runs much faster than he's supposed to.

I tried to enable the console before, but unlike for the previous poster, nothing changed. In fact, I couldn't even bring up the console. I've got a Swedish keyboard, and I tried every key, none of which helped.
There is another thing worth trying but only works if you have a 4 series or above ASUS motherboard. If you have said ASUS motherboard install the EPU engine (supplied on the board disc), then before starting the game put it on the max power saving mode (little man icon)

This worked for me with Unreal Gold, the first UT engine that Unreal has been moved into now is known to run to fast on modern systems. When I put my PC into the max power saving mode with the ASUS EPU engine the game started to run at the correct speed as it inhibits the CPU, it also is more energy efficient.

There is also a program called Granola which does the same thing but doesnt slow the CPU fan speed down like the ASUS utility. Granola works on all systems . Worth giving a shot :

That is a very good idea, I have that software installed for my motherboard. I am a bit scared about buying Hitman though. Don't want to be stuck with it if I can't run it properly.
Try this:

In GOG release the console should be enabled by default. So skip this step if the ` key (above tab) works for you. If not then:

Step #1 - Enabling console

Open hitman.ini in notepad

In the section "Enable Console" add enableconsole 1 as a separate line. Save the file.

Step #2 - setting timemultiplier

In game, press ` to bring up the console. Type in IP_TIMEMULTIPLIER .<VALUE>

Now, <VALUE> is in between of 1-99, you have to experiment to find the right setting. But .99 is usually default, so try around .70 and go from there.
Thank you!!!! It works !!

.70 is indeed a good value to start with (it's enough on my computer).

For those with an AZERTY keyboard, you can't enter the "_", even if you know the correspondance with QWERTY. You may have to change your keyboard language by using Alt+Shift. Just enter Alt+Shift when the low dash is needed, push ")" then Alt+Shift again to revert to AZERTY.

-----

Doesn't work.

This is what hitman.ini looks like:

Include Setup\Locale.zip
//DrawDll Render3DFX.dll
DrawDll RenderD3D.dll
//DrawDll RenderOpenGL.dll
SoundDll Sound.dll
ScriptDll GSC.dll
LocaleDLL Locale.dll
Resolution 800x600

That's after a uninstall and reinstall. On that subject, uninstalling doesn't delete the save games even if you select No when if asks if you want to keep them.

Just putting the command as the last line doesn't help, either. I tried it, and none of the keys on my (Swedish) keyboard make any kind of console appear.

The Enable Console section simply isn't in the .ini. None of the keys open the console by default, either. Certainly not §, which is the key above tab on my keyboard.

Mehbah: Doesn't work.
Whoops, sorry, my bad.

The console enable fix I gave above is for Hitman 2.

Here are the correct contents of hitman.ini with console enabled. As you can see, enableconsole is just below the resolution.

Include Setup\Locale.zip
//DrawDll Render3DFX.dll
DrawDll renderd3d.dll
//DrawDll RenderOpenGL.dll
SoundDll Sound.dll
ScriptDll GSC.dll
LocaleDLL Locale.dll
Resolution 1024x768
enableconsole

Also, remember that the // lines are the alternate renderers. The line without // is your current renderer, so if you are running anything other than Direct3D then you have to adjust the contents manually.

Or just add the enableconsole after Resolution (although it shouldn't really matter where you put it really).

If you have any more problems, let me know.

This did not work, either. Even if I copy and paste the mentioned settings, no key brings up the console.

However, reaching the first actual mission somehow, presumably through magic, fixed the movement speed. Some animations still seem sped up, but the game is fully playable so far.

In case someone else is having the same problems as me, see if you can run through the tutorial and get to the first mission. It's a long shot, but it might be worth a try if none of the solutions online work for you.
