I know this is a shot in the dark and since there's no successful google hits (and no hits at WSGF) I guess there's non but it couldn't hurt to ask, at least here since I use this GOG versions.

Anyone got a solution? I'm open minded. I can't stand stretched anymore (damnit..) but I suppose playing in window mode could be acceptable if it uses the same resolution as my desktop.
HoMM3 HD runs HoMM3 in a variety of resolutions:

HoMM4... I think you're out of luck there. No one has made a widescreen hack for it as far as I know.

Awesome! I will try it out.

EDIT: Thanks, works great. It feels weird though, been playing this game when I was 11-12 so much at 800x600. Anyway, the performance is still horrible. This is a turn-based game and a classic so I can't say I'm as bothered as I am with modern games but I would at least like to have 30FPS stable instead of 10FPS for the most part, if I'm like it hops up to 15 or 20.

Anyway at all to increase performance in the 3rd one (or 4th)? I read about the change log for this HD mod and it said something about CPU patch, what does that do?

In this HD mod, all those new features are they included just like that? I noticed some data list you could add and I just chose default.

Was performance bad before you started using the HoMM3 HD mod? Or only afterward?

I actually haven't delved into the details of the HD mod other than tried it out and it worked great for me (no perf issues). But you're right that a number of other convenience features have been added and there is a way to toggle them on and off.

Bad before, I'm not sure if the game can run good, at least on Windows 7. I have a retail version and an unethical version and they all have the same trait when it comes to performance. I can live with it but I would certainly like to increase it.

Well, I'm running it on Win7x64. You would assume that would have the most likelihood for problems, but as I said, it works perfectly for me.

If you haven't already, try one of the two forums linked below in addition to here at GOG. The two below are both very active HoMM communities and it could be that your problem is already solved or that someone there can help you figure it out.
