Most good mods are for ToTE only. Skillwheel is a must. There are other (search for xasardous in google). There are also vanilla and HoF campaigns available as a mod for ToTE, so you can play them with all your mods and caravans and all the upgrades from ToTE.

This here. Is pretty much the only must have mod. Why?
1) Because even on the highest difficulty, the AI is pretty dumb in vanilla TotE. This fixes that problem.
2) MUCH shorter ai turns, especially in the longer games on huge maps.
By the way, for those of you who have tried it, do you experience any issues with the spellbook being stretched on widescreen?

I know it's silly, but I can't stand the ugly treants in the final release of the game. So, if you feel the same, here is a mod to revert back to the mighty behemoths of the beta:
