I played HOMM ages ago and I bought MM Millenium Edition about 20 years ago and I am just pulling it off the shelf :)
Glad to see the game still has such a big following, they don't make them like this anymore.

1) I don't know what is in this edition, I think I gave away my original games. I think it was because they were all included in this release, is that right?

2) I can't install the product, I get the launcher but after I hit install or anything else I get nothing, can't launch from a dos box and compatibility mode says it fixed a problem but nothing changed.

help?

My system:
Windows 10 64Bit....nothing done to it as far as I know.

Might and Magic box (doesn't say "Heros of" has a dragon on the front, I thought I had a knight on it but I guess not.
6 disks are in the set.
I probably installed it on XP at some point but can't remember.
I am worried this does not have editions 1 to 3 included.

They are different games Might and Magic series is an RPG. GOG has 1-6 bundled together and 7, 8 and 9 each sold separately.

Heroes of Might and Magic is a spinoff the M&M series and is a strategy game. GoG has 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 each sold separately, each with all its expansions.

The millenium edition you have/had on disc included Heroes of Might and Magic 1, 2 + expansion and 3 (without expansions). I have it too by the way.

As your question about installation, what exactly are you trying to install? The edition sold here on GOG, or one from a disc?
If you are trying to install something you purchased from GOG, please post a link to its game page or the name of the installer you downloaded from your game library. That will let prospective users identify exactly what game you are trying to install, which may be important in identifying why it is not working for you.
thanks for the replies. Still a little fuzzy on it but.....

I did not purchase this from GOG.
I have the 6 disc set called Might and Magic Millennium Edition. It has a Dragon on the front. The box doesn't indicate that Versions 1-3 are on there but I remembered them being on there for some reason.

When I run autoInstall I get the popup asking me to install or visit support etc.....when I click install it closes and nothing happens.
I turned off all Anti-virus and am running windows 10.
I have gleaned bits and pieces from the web but it is certainly not clear. Something about Direct X and other things.

Are GOG forums the wrong place to ask this?
thanks.

Copy the content of the disc to a folder in your hard drive, then replace Setup.exe with the one labeled "InstallShield 5" (not 3!) from this thread: http://www.reactos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10988 Then run the setup executable from that folder.

It may take several tries, maybe even reboots, but it's the only proper way to fix the old InstallShield-based setups on newer systems (that I know of, at least).

You are confusing Might and Magic with Heroes of Might and Magic, both of which had Millenium Editions.

Heroes of Might and Magic Millenium Edition had HoMM 1-3 included in it. Box has image of a knight.
Might and Magic Millenium Edition had MM 4-7 included in it. Box has image of a dragon (these are not sequels to Heroes of Might and Magic).

Note that these are different games and even different genres. Heroes of Might and Magic that you played ages ago were strategy games. Might and Magic that you are trying to install now were strategy games.

See the different entries here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Might_and_Magic
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_of_Might_and_Magic

Now regarding the installation:
Please note that the isntallation disc is 17 years old, so getting it to run on modern operating systems might be difficult. Back when the it came out, the most recent operating system was Windows 98. Windows 10 is several generations newer and uses a different architecture. Unless you're a pwoer user, it might be too complicated. You can try the following:

_Right click on the installer and select "Run as Administrator". See if that solves the problem.

_Compatibility modes. You said you tried them already. Which ones? If you haven't tried them all, try the different ones and maybe one will work.

_If you have access to a computer with an older version of Windows, try installing it there and then copying the installed folder to Windows 10. It might work immediately. If not, you might have to copy registry keys (but unless you know what you're doing I strongly advise against messing with registry).

_If you can set up a virtual XP machine on your PC try installing/playing from there.

Finally, you could consider buying the games here on GOG. They're not that expensive, and if you want you can wait for a sale when you can get them at a significant discount. They've been updated to run on modern operating systems (just make sure Windows 10 is included in the supported OSs), so there won't be any hassle about trying to get them to work, and it's just a digital download, so you don't have to worry about physical discs. Just make sure you're buying the game you want, since they're bundled differently. Available on GOG are Heroes of Might and Magic 1-5 (each sold separately), Might and Magic 1-6 in one bundle and Might and Magic 7-9 each sold separately.

Might and Magic Millenium edition does not using Install Shield 3, so this is not the problem here. It uses 32-bit installers (not sure if Install Shield; but if it is, then it uses Install Shield 5 already).

I said 5, not 3, mate ;) Replacement exes for both are included in that thread.

Even after replacing the executable (from experience of several different InstallShield-based game setups), it might not budge still until the nth try. Compatibilty mode doesn't make much difference, either.

OK, I see. However those are for replacing 16 bit installers, so I don't think it applies here because if I'm not mistaken Might and Magic already uses 32-bit installers.
The symptoms are different, if you try running a 16 bit installer you get an error message that the file is incompatible, the fact that the OP mentions nothing is happening indicates that the installers are already 32-bit.
Progress was made!
I found my HOMM3 disk in the basement + 2 expansions! Hurrah!

I created a Windows XP Virtual Machine (vm) in windows 10 It installed but the sound and video was really jerky.

I created a Windows 7 VM. It installed and worked great but a HyperV console view has no sound.

RDP from Windows 10 still wouldn't provide sound.

RDP from Windows 7 worked for sound but HOMM3 would crash immediately on launch

I feel like technology is toying with me.
I love this game and want my kid to play this instead of starcraft.

The steam version is HD and I found an HD mod but I could not get it to work (did not try too hard).

Am I going to have more luck with the version from GOG on Windows 10?

????
Success!!!

Installed it on Windows 10. It is now easy peasy.

Run System Configuration.
Set the boot option to Safe Mode

Install application

Set boot to start in normal mode
reboot

set Heroes to launch in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. Give people admin rights when running this, it is on the same page.

play!

thanks for the input.
Happy it worked. Enjoy the game.
