Will GOG be releasing the Mac version of HOMM 3? I already bought the windows version and love it on my desk top but would love to see it on both operating systems!
The Mac version of HoMM3 was from the PowerPC days. With Classic and Rosetta being purged from new OSX versions, It would be a royal pain to get it to run well on modern Mac hardware.

Never say never, but I doubt it'll ever happen on GOG.

From what I understand, at least one game recently made Mac compatible (Fallout 2, maybe?) is actually just the PC version installed in a Wineskin wrapper.

HoMM3 works wonderfully in Wineskin, so all it would really take would be compatibility testing and some nice Wineskin packaging.

So the real question is whether or not GOG believes they'll get a substantial enough return on doing that work.

It'd be awesome if they released a mac version of HOMMII as well :)

I am too dumb to parse out the steps necessary to make it work through wineskin, and I'd definitely pay for a .dmg version that wouldn't require compu-knowledge to run natively on OSX. If GOG is doing cost-benefit analysis on this, here's at least one consumer who'd love to see it!

I don't have a great deal of compu-knowledge myself, but it took me about 5 minutes to get HOMM 3 running in Wineskin with the HD mod installed. Very easy process, helped by the fact that the developer of Wineskin (which is free) has done her utmost to simplify the experience for relative novices. Happy to post instructions if there's interest.
YESSSSSSS PLEASE POST INSTRUCTIONS!!! I'd give my first born to play this on my mac

The instructions for getting HoMM3 to work on a Mac would be the same as any game/program you load with Wineskin. If Wineskin is tough/confusing for you, there's always PlayOnMac, which has a wizard that should handle everything for you.

Links:
Wineskin: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php
PlayOnMac: http://www.playonmac.com/en/
If creating a usable set of instructions is too tough/confusing for you, you could always upload your succesful configuration file.

Not in my experience. All animations are choppy and right click to show windows with game information doesn't work properly. Am I setting up Wineskin wrong?

I've found that what has the most impact on games with Wineskin is using a compatible version of Wine itself. Latest is not always best for a particular game.

This works quite well, and is pretty simple to set up

1 - download his winebottle.
2 - run it
3 - choose the GoG installer for heroes 3
4 -optionally install any gog update for it as well

It's about that easy, the video is more authoritative than me.

The only flaw is that it looks pretty bizarre if you command-tab out of it and back again. It's possible that you can work around this by toggling windowed mode with F4.

Personally i gave up and bought a copy of crossover which made it even easier.
