I just bought the HoMM 2 Gold Edition from GOG. I noticed that the Soundtracks in Townscreens are different from the ones I used to know back in the old days. So after some research I found out, that the GOG Version uses the Soundtrack from the Expansion Pack.

I know there are already some older threads concerning that Problem, but nothing could help me yet. So does any Body have an Idea what I can do now? I´ve heard about switching the soundfiles from the games folder with the soundfiles from the Soundtrack but somehow it is not working. I also found an older thread from the year 2012, were someone put a link to download the ripped and "ready to use" soundfiles but the files have been removed.

I find the original Townthemes from Succesion Wars are the best Themes in gaminghistory so I hope anyone will help me to fix that Problem.

By the way I am using the dosbox Version of the game but I would also Change to the Windows Version if necessary.

Thanks so far

I wrote about it here, but it can be broken down to few simple steps:

- download MP3 soundtrack from extras;
- copy town tracks (05-10) to game MUSIC folder;
- rename them to 'homm2_05', 'homm2_06' etc. (leave .mp3 extension as it is);
- open 'homm2.inst' file in Notepad
- for tracks 5 to 10 change '.OGG' to '.MP3'

for example:
FILE "music\homm2_05.ogg" MP3

change to
FILE "music\homm2_05.mp3" MP3

EDIT:
I noticed it was asked several times already, so I will probably just add both versions and instructions how to switch between them to the next build ;)

Thank you for your help. I did everything as you told me. When I start the game after changing the files, than the townscreens just remain completely silent. I don´t know why it is not working. I don´t think I made a mistake.
I'm having the same problem, I followed the instructions explicitly and now there is simply no town music when running the game

Sorry Thiev but I don't think those instructions worked for me. I followed them correctly, even reinstalled and tried it a second time.

Yeah, I was writing from memory. I will just upload patch for HoMM with necessary files, in about 1-2 hours.

EDIT: the patch is now live.

Thank you! Great work, friend :)

GOG support is about 100000x times better than steam support!
