As the title states, I'm having trouble getting the CD music without Opera vocals working in my game. I can switch between MIDI and CD Music w/ Opera easily enough, but if I select the w/o Opera version then all of the town music fails to play; it just continues playing whatever terrain music I had playing previously before I entered the town. I've also tried using the dosboxhomm2_music.conf file to change the music, but this only seems to play the Opera versions. Is anyone able to help?

That's how it is supposed to be.
It is ether MIDI music or CD music.
The "opera" part is town themes, not vocals.
If you select cd w/o opera, you will get only terrain cd music.
Huh, really? I could have sworn when I played HoMM2 many, many years ago, there was a way to get CD audio music for the towns without hearing the opera vocals. Might be I'm just misremembering it. Guess I'll stick to the MIDI tracks then. Thanks for the answer. :)

Maybe you were listening to midi tracks back then. :)
It is possible, that you played succession wars. It features different music for town themes. Maybe with less vocals?
Who can tell... :)

Wow! I could have sworn that too!
I just got my dusty CD to check (Windows version, Millenium Edition), and dahbk is right.

Why don't you like the vocals?

I've never experienced this.
Might something to do with release edition.

The thing is, the Millenium Edition is the only HoMM2 I ever played. So I am remembering wrong.

EDIT: I just realized I made a mistake in my first post. I meant to say dahbk is right.

That's some mistake :D
I thought that there is something I don't know about homm2 and will have to investigate now . Haha :)

ZFR: Why don't you like the vocals?
Ehh, I'm just not a fan of opera in general. I liked the richer instrumentals present in the CD audio, but I just found the opera vocals ruined my immersion a bit.

I see. I personally loved the vocals. Especially barbarian. But to each their own of course.

Enjoy the game!

Oh yeah, it's definitely a personal thing. My music collection is like 99% instrumentals and video game soundtracks. There's barely any songs with vocals in there at all. XD
