In attempting to complete the second mission of the Academy campaign at a slow pace, an error eventually pops up. Specifically, it occurs when the computer is completing its turn. When it nearly finishes the error occurs.

A few things to note though. I installed and played this game on my other computer. Some of the specifications on that one were:

-Windows 7 Ultimate - 32-bit.
-4GB DDR2 RAM
-AMD Phenom II X4 955
-Nvidia GTX 260
-(Will give more if it is necessary)

After a good number of in-game months have passed, game crashed during the computer's turn. I was not sure if I reached some time limit bug so I loaded a save that was a good number of months before that issue. Error popped up even earlier than the other mission play.

I saved the profile (and saves) and transferred it over to my new computer that had been freshly put together. Some of the specifications are:

-Windows 7 Ultimate - 64-bit
-16GB DDR3 RAM
-Intel 4770k
-Nvidia GTX 770
-(Will give more if it is necessary)

Game still crashed during the computer's turn when those specific save files were played.

Not sure how relevant it may be but I used cheat codes to bypass the preceding campaigns until I reached the Academy one. From there, just played normally until the crashes occurred.

If anyone has a clue about solving this, would appreciate the help.

I haven't gotten to that campaign, so this will be little more than random guessing on my part.

I seem to recall that heroes from previous campaigns will turn up again in the last one (mage); I don't know the details. So maybe the cheats screwed that up somehow? But that doesn't make sense when the earlier load screwed up the game earlier (did you get to the same point on the map faster?).

Sounds like you've already done the equivalent of the standard uninstall/reinstall, so it might be that your save got corrupted somehow.

Guessing or not, I appreciate the input and it provides another way to approach this problem.

I haven't completed this campaign but it seems very likely you're on the mark that there will be earlier Heroes that will make a reappearance. From what I remember from reading through some strategy guides, Mission 2 does not have them, just normal heroes you can hire. So this seems to be an unlikely trigger (but a thoughtful guess!).

With respect to the earlier load screwing up earlier, it might be triggered via exploration + specific enemy hero movements but I'm not exactly sure how this would work. I do recall uncovering similar amounts of the map and fairly similar movement by the enemy heroes when both saves crashed. Then again, it was all done on my other computer before migrating the profile and saves onto my newer one - which has a freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate OS.

Well, for the time being, I think I'll just restart the Mission (not the campaign) and see how it goes from there.

Will provide updates about this in case someone else comes upon this sort of problem.

And thank you for the response, Bookwyrm. These kinds of bugs can be frustrating to approach but it becomes less so if there's another to take an outside look at it.

I'm glad I was able to provide moral support, if nothing else.

And the developers didn't prepare for all possibilities while doing their scripting. In one of the missions for the human campaign, you are instructed to save an allied hero that shows up (and then almost promptly gets jumped by an enemy). However, the ally is supposed to lose the battle for the mission to advance. Not knowing this, my mother restarted after the ally "died", she prepared, and then she pounced on the enemy attacker (thereby saving the ally). The mission broke and she couldn't continue.
