Hi all.

First off, I am a veteran of Heroes2. I never had the opportunity to play 3 until just recently.

For my first campaign, I selected the first option under Shadow of Death (with Gem as the main hero). At one point, an enemy hero had sacked one of my towns, but in the process lost all of his troops save for about two units. I rushed over with my main hero and army, and upon entering battle with the hero, was shocked to notice that his army was completely replenished. The enemy hero had no town that close to me or other buildings on the map where he could get troops that fast. These were not troops from my faction (Rampart), but a mix of Necropolis and random creatures around the map. Also, I had hired all possible troops from the town prior to the takeover, and it was in the middle of the week - day 4 or something.

Is this a bug? Or is there some type of artifact or other ability that would allow a hero to get instant reinforcements like this? I don't remember anything like this in Heroes2 at all.

My install process was:
install gog installer
install universal patch
install HD patch

Please someone shed some light on this unsettling situation! It's been dragging on an otherwise awesome experience revisiting this old friend. Thank you.

Hmm, I'm not sure how far along you were in the map, but it may be possible the enemy had access to the town portal spell and got reinforcements like that.

Hi, and thanks for the quick response!

That may explain the behavior I was seeing last night. AFAIK, there was no Town Portal spell in Heroes2 (maybe on an artifact?), which would explain me not knowing about it. My memory is kind of hazy - it might have been a different hero that had teleported to the town in that case, and I may have just randomly attacked assuming it was the same one. I'll double-check my save game tonight, but it sounds like it was probably a hero who came in with Town Portal (this was after several, several turns so it makes sense the enemy could have had a Mage Guild Lvl4 built by that time).

Thanks!
There was a Town Portal spell in HoMM2, but it was pretty rare (you could have 20 castles with level 5 mage guilds, and never have it show up). In HoMM3 it's much more common, with the caveat that a hero needs to have Earth Magic to get the most out of it (otherwise it just acts like Town Gate from HoMM2, teleporting the hero to the nearest town rather than the town of their choosing).
There are scripted reinforcements in the Necropolis towns on that map. Best to move quickly and neutralise them before they build up their numbers.
