I played the first set of 3 scenarios (the "Long Live the Queen" campaign) unmodded, and when the game told me that my best heroes would transfer to the next scenario within this set of three, they did.

Then I installed the HoMM3 HD mod and started the second set of 3 scenarios (the "Dungeons and Devils" campaign). When I finished the first scenario, the game promised me that my best heroes would carry over to the second scenario, but they didn't.

Is this a bug in the game or an effect of the mod? And is there any way around it? I spent a ridiculously long time sending the heroes from the first scenario to every stat-building location, since I knew they'd be with me for the next two scenarios, and it's really annoying to start with a single Level 1 hero that I've never seen before!

Suggestions?

(To be clear, I'm NOT complaining that the heroes from "Long Live the Queen" failed to carry over to "Dungeons and Devils" -- I know that's not supposed to happen. But the heroes carried over just fine WITHIN "Long Live the Queen," but they're not carrying over within "Dungeons and Devils.")

If I recall correctly, the "Dungeons and Devils" campaign works a little differently. You play as Inferno in the first mission, Dungeon in the second, and you'll get to choose between either the Inferno or Dungeon heroes in the third. So the heroes do carry over, but not to the second mission in this case.

Oh, thank you! It helps to know that all of that effort wasn't actually for nothing, even if I don't get to use those heroes in the second scenario. Thank you, thank you!

Yup. Same thing will happen in the Barbarian/Tatalia campaign (play with a set of heroes on first level, a different set on second, and then choose on the thrid which one of those two you want to play).

By they way, when you started the second campaign, did you remember to continue your current game (after getting the option to save) and not choosing "New Game" from main menu?

Sure did! I'm not sure you can even get the second scenario of the series from the New Game menu, but in any case, I didn't do that. :-)

Thanks for the warning!

I don't think you understood ZFR's question. He wasn't asking how you started the second map in the Dungeons and Devils campaign, he was asking how you started the Dungeons and Devils campaign in the first place.

After you finished "Long Live the Queen", you should have been offered a chance to save. You need to load that saved game before selecting which campaign you want to play next (in this case, Dungeons and Devils).

You should use this save and load mechanic every time you finish a campaign. If you click "Campaign" and "New" from the main menu, then you won't be able to access the later campaigns in the game.

Yes, I continued on from my prior save. It's clear that the campaigns are meant to be done in order.

Alrighty. Just checking, to save you some work after you beat the initial 3 campaigns.

Not everyone realizes they need to load that End-of-Campaign save before starting the next campaign.
