I downloaded HOMM2 Gold Edition a couple of days ago and can't do anything with it.
I assume should be some kind of setup file, but it's not, it's a blank page listed in properties as "File Type: File". Whenever I click on it, I'm given an option on what program to open it under, I have DosBox and D-Fend Reloaded. If I try to open it in DosBox straight I am told:
"C:\>SETUP_HOMM_2_GOLD
Illegal command: SETUP_HOMM_2_GOLD"
and if I try to open it via D-Fend Reloaded I am told:
"There is no game-record with this name"
I am trying to run it on a Toshiba Satellite L350D Laptop and of course I am running Windows Vista Home Premium (surprise surprise) but so far can't do anything with it. Was there a problem with the download or have I just got the process totally wrong?
Please help, I have emailed support and still to no reply.

Did you try download it again?
And it is just as you assume - it is a setup file. Probably the download somehow went bad, hence the unknown filetype.

Namur: Hi,

I just did that, it totally changed the icon... I'm not sure it's solved the problem, I'll just try it and report back... I feel stupid now.

No problem ;)
Renaming the file it's not something you'd have to normally do, but for some reason, a few files on the servers seem to have lost their extension (the '.exe' bit in their names).
That should not be happening, the file should come with the extension in its name. Luckily renaming the file and adding the extension works, so untill support fixes the issue we can keep on gaming ;)

Having a similar problem with mine, the set up file just won't open at all, have the new icon and it named as setup_homm_2gold.exe
