Am I missing something or is the version of Heroes 2 Gold that I downloaded from GOG using the original version of the Map Editor instead of the PoL version? I ask because I read about how it had a random map generator, yet when I launched the map editor that I got in the download from GOG it seems to be the original version since I can't find the random map generator feature.
To be sure, I double checked it against my CD installed version of Heroes 2 Gold, and sure enough the map editor in that install is the expansion version with the random map generator feature. I realize I can copy the executable and its associated DLL file over to my GOG install, however I'm just wondering why the version I downloaded from GOG has the original map editor when everything else (minus the opera music) from the PoL is included.
All it really does is make reinstalling Heroes 2 Gold a bit of a hassle when I inevitably end up upgrading from XP to Windows 7 since I'll have to try installing from my CD version to get the map editor off of it, and hope it still works in Windows 7. It isn't a huge game breaker since there's plenty of user generated maps out there, but I just figured I'd ask in case I was missing something really obvious.

I'd also like the PoL version of the map editor.. I've been trying to figure out why I can only edit the original maps..
One of you guys should contact the GOG support directly through email, its possible they are not even aware of this error.
Didn't already the vanilla HoMM2 map editor have the RMG feature as well?

Yes, please do. They are already looking into the soundtrack issue. They might as well look at this at the same time. If they need to update the installer anyway, then they can just do it once instead of twice, if this issue can be fixed at the same time.
I just emailed support to let them know of this thread and the problem.
I was driving myself crazy trying to edit the PoL maps. At least now I know what the problem is.
I have had this thought as well, and I have also noticed as a side that there is no way to put ghost mounds on the maps, while this is not a large problem it is annoying as they seem to have integrated ghosts into the original version where they were not there or at least not common if they were (maybe at the broken down gold mines). I am hoping if they fix the map editor problem it resolves this issue as well.

Ghost mounds should never be used anyway. They unbalance everything completely.

This. The editor should be used to remove the mounds from the map, not to add them.
Some ghosts + some neutral peasants = OP army very quickly.
I give them to the computers I like to have a good 1 v1 with them but the armies they mass don't usually cause me problems so I put a mound at their start it usually gives them a bonus, but they never build them up very much, but it is something that helps to make it a bit more of a challenge.
