my map editor may not be complete. it is not at all like the HMM3 editor which is quite easy to use. in contrast, i can't find any way to get the terrain & other items on the map. all i can get is the map & a few menus to set up characters.

how do i get the terrain & castles on the map? can anyone tell me how to get started with this map.

also, is there a way to alter the maps already given with the game? again, this is a piece of cake with HMM3.

You are correct when you say the H5 editor is nothing like the H3 one. Yes, in comparison, the H3 editor is indeed a piece of cake.

The H5 editor is more complex which is good in that it allows for much more complex maps to be made, but not so good in that it is very difficult to master. There should be a folder "Editor Documentation" in the game folders which may help a little, it is a collection of PDF files.

Failing that, YouTube may be a little help or just Google. You could also try https://www.celestialheavens.com/forum/8
where you may find some useful information.

Though I have tinkered with the H3 MapEd, I have never done much with the H5 one, apart from opening a couple of custom maps in it to make some minor corrections (Reposition a building to allow access etc).

Hope this is some help though.
thank you for your suggestions. it certainly leaves me hopeful. although i miss the easy use of the HMM3 editor.

i hope, though that i can find copies of the maps already made. because i would like to make some changes in them.

again thanks for the info & happy gaming!
