Is the gog version worth the investment. I have the vanilla version and the lackluster ai makes me hesitant.

I would suggest trying your vanilla version out with the Equilibris mod, which did a few things to fix the AI situation. If you're happy with the results, then you can get the GOG version of HOMM4.
