Is there any better random map generator which has more options or without options but more refined generator? I ussually prefer random maps because they are random. But there are a lot of bad things with it like, almost always you get a sh*load of teleports or all castles close together near center, and all around just empty space.

Anyone might know what i need? Maybe some command lines to fix these issues?

The trick is coming up with an "RMG.TXT" file that matches the kind of games you like to play. Check out the first reply to http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=14290 for links to discussion about how to create/modify your own templates, or even just download someone else's.

My son and I prefer biggest size with 2 allied players and 6 allied AIs, light on artifacts, heavy on resources, a second town of the same type that can generally be captured by the end of the first week, a third town of random type that can be captured by the third, plus a couple of high-powered zones with tough neutrals. Its actually been balanced for the previous version of WoG, so I can't say how well it would work with base HoMM3, or even the current WoG release, but if it is remotely close to the kind of game you like, I'd put it up somewhere. Worst case, its another example of how to set up your own RMG.TXT...
Thorfin is on the right track with the RMG.TXT file, or TEMPLATES as they are better known by. However there are already several made up that have been very well tested and are pretty quick and easy to use.

First off to explain this in a better way. Templates are just guidelines for the Random Map Generator to use to help make better maps. You see the problem with it as it is is that pure random maps are very unbalanced just because of the randomness. Not to mention that you sometimes winded up with no way to get to your opponent, unless you got lucky and managed to learn Dimension Door or Fly (or artifact that gives Fly). I mean random is fun but not when you can't actually get at your enemy.

How to use them is quite simple after the first time you use or see it done.

The link below has about 20 templates ready for you to download and use. The majority of them are 1 on 1 as they were used for tournament play. They list the sizes they support and other things like if any towns are disabled, namely Conflux/Necro as these gave HUGE advantages.

1. Find the template you want to use click on it then choose Save As.
2. Copy the file and move it into the Heroes 3 Data file. Usual default path for the file below unless you chose somewhere else when installing.

C:\Program Files\3DO\Heroes 3 Complete\Data OR C:\Program Files\Gog.com\Heroes 3 Complete\Data

3 RENAME the file to "RMG" without the quotes.

4. Start a New Game, Single Scenario, choose Random Map and set your oprtions (keep in mind restrictions such as # of players and size of the template you chose) choose your town/hero or not as you prefer and hit begin.

*** To easily see that the template worked ounce you have started the game just hit the letter "i" to bring up the scenario information and you will see it says the name of the template used.

5. To choose a different template simply follow the steps again and delete the old RMG you no longer want to use.

Editing these templates is and advanced feature you may want to look into in the future. Best place to ask questions about that is on the Heroes Community web site.

Hope this helps you all.
i tried to follow the guidelines by previous post which had link in other posts..

before i tried.. downloaded that RMG.txt copy it in c:\rmggen
load command prompt and write "type java.rmggen.java (it wouldnt work without writting the file extension)
then some small shit would be appear and then i would copy paste in homm3/data

However i found it awekward and i didnt understood if it worked(seemed that it works) but i am still very confused.

And now you say its ENOUGH to just copy RMG to data and it works? That would be so simple and cool. Going to try now. Thanks for help.

The thing is I think Thors info is for far more advanced users who actually want to DESIGN their own template and already have some idea how they work.

My directions are for pre-made templates that already have their specifications and you don't really have to do anything but the very simple things I outlined to start enjoying them and thus are for anyone.

I have been playing this game since it came out in 99 and I still wouldn't really mess with making my own template.
Although I just MAY eventually learn enough to alter small things in them.

I need more help. My H3 is not picking up the maps I put in or the random map generator. I am getting a message that says "Random_Map.h3m is not in the data" so I put that file from a template in data and it's still not getting it. Also RMG.What? Saving it as just RMG isn't telling me what file type I need.

Just install the HoMM3 HD+ mod. It increases the game resolution, adds a LOT of quality of life features, and allows for a better control over the random map generator.

I can't post links at the moment, but you can google for it.
