I am trying to enable the debug in gold, but can't figure it out. Generally you would add /nwc at the end of the target in the shortcut properties, but as the program goes through dosbox, and the shortcut target is not just an exe file, but a shortcut to dosbox, with config files directing dosbox what to do im not sure what to do.... Ive tried just manually launching through dosbox, but it tells me I need disk. Any pointers please, I would very much like to use the debug mode, for different reasons. Please help!!

The line you are looking for is in one of the dosbox conf files. The conf files setup the environment and launch the game. Look for where it's launching the game and add /nwc to it. I would be more specific, but I don't actually have the game.

If the solution posted by Gydion doesn't work, you could always try it with the Windows version of the game. It's available as bonus content.
Debug mode works only in Windows release of the game. And GoG release actually has nothing to do with Gold game release but Heroes of Might and Magic Compendium CD2 instead.

Well, that answers that.
