Hi,
I was really excited to play the remaster of Heretic, since I experienced the era of the original games and they’re one of my favorites. And while I appreciate making the games accessible to a modern audience, modern computers, and the improved graphics, one thing that bothers me immensely is the modification of enemy and weapon stats, and especially the changes in level design, which in my opinion are for the worse. Some levels I didn’t even recognize. At the end, I eventually had to return to the original version of Heretic, which I enjoy much more (and for some reason it even feels like the controls are smoother). I’ll probably use the remaster only to play the new expansion. That’s why I wanted to ask whether the level design changes also affected Hexen, or if the levels in that game remained the same. Just so I know which version to play.
Thanks,
Ondrej

They probably did do "minor adjustments to levels to be more navigable" in Hexen as well.
But, you can turn those OFF.
It is in the most obtuse, blink and miss it, places they could have put it. Maybe could have gone into Options - Gameplay. Maybe there is a reason not to though, example can't be in gameplay options after level is already loaded..

New Game
Select level set.
BEFORE SELECTING DIFFICULTY (skill level), you will notice at the bottom a Gameplay Modifiers. hit tab to go into that and turn off various enhancements.

Yes, I had already found it in the setting. Well hidden indeed. Since there are changes in the level design in the Hexen as well, I think I will stick to the original game. Thanks.
