GuyNamedErick: Unlike the Steam release of Hexen and it's expansion, Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, the CD Music is included in both games. Another thing, the Deathkings WAD file, HEXDD.WAD, is patched to v1.1 out of the box. The Steam release has HEXDD.WAD v1.0 which has the SNDINFO lump missing, meaning no MUS/MIDI music will play. Since HEXDD.WAD v1.1 is included in the GOG release, you don't need to manually patch the game through DOSBox.

I would like to give thanks to the Doom Wiki for this information, you can look on the WAD file page here: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/HEXDD.WAD

Regarding Hexen 2, the CD music is also included, which was not in the Steam release much like the original Hexen and its expansion. So all the Hexen games now have the CD music included in this GOG release.

Just want to make a topic for anyone curious on the differences between the Steam and GOG releases of the Hexen games here. :)

Edit: All music included in all releases are in OGG format! None are in MP3 format and music should also be playable when using a source port like Hammer of Thyrion for Hexen 2. Hopefully there is no more confusion here.
MusicallyInspired has created Roland SC-55 music packs for several classic first person shooters:

https://forums.duke4.net/topic/2505-roland-sc-55-music-packs/

He has one for Heretic available here:

http://sc55.duke4.net/games.php#heretic

At some point in the future, he's also going to make enhanced packs for Heretic and Hexen.
I just don't like how the tracks are named: Track01 Track02

This makes them hard to use with source ports.

Wait you're telling me that you can't get midi's to play with the Steam version of Death Kings. What if I use a source port?

Also I'm having trouble getting the music files to play in a source port due to how they have been named. I'm Using Doomsday.

As for Hammer of Thyrion, you can just keep the track names from GOG. They play where they are supposed to.

No you can't! You have to rename them before they will work with Hammer of Thyrion.

Right. I misremembered.... No idea why.

Actually, you do have to rename them:

No you don't have to rename them. Just copy and paste the music folder from your normal HeXen II installation into the "data1" folder of your Hammer of Thyrion installation and then change music type to "all codecs" in the options. Works absolutely fine.

Voodoo84: Hexen's CD music sounds slightly better than MIDI played on a decent Sound Blaster compatible 25 years ago.

However, DOSBox MIDI reproduction via Microsoft GS Wavetable built into Windows sounds like crap, that's why this release is important.
GZdoom allows to switch soundbanks in Fluidsynth (as of 4.5.0 it's Full Options Menu>Sound Options>Advanced Options>MIDI Player Options>FluidSynth>Select Configuration, from there you can select any sf2 soundfont you put in the "soundfonts" subfolder) and a combination of Virtual MIDI Synth and Coolsoft MIDI mapper allows to get around the Microsoft GS Wavetable by using other soundfonts (you can also find a few possible soundfonts on their website).
From PCGamingWiki:

"The CD soundtrack lacks some songs from the MIDI soundtrack and repeats tracks"

It's true?

And why is there a cd-audio version? All musics was done with a SC-55...

Yes, indeed. And things were this way in the official CD release too. That's why I never used CD-audio with this game.
I have to confirm this... i have just tried to check music folder... -.-'

I hope that Hexen II has all musics

I will start to use adlib/sound blaster with Heretic1 & Hexen1, because all musics were done with a sound blaster...
