I installed the game with the last two available installers - V1.0 and the new V.1.01. With both versions there is a slightly off aspect ratio. It is technically 4:3 but you can see that all round objects are slightly stretched vertically. The "cursor feeling" is also slighty strange because of this. I watched multiple videos of the game and they seem to prove me right.

Do you happen to know how to correct this with the DOSBox config file?
I have altered mutliple lines but cannot get a flawless result.

You'll probably want to switch to a different DOSBox. The pixel perfect patch was the way i used to fix that, but it looks like DOSBox staging does it a bit different now.

You may find the following article interesting:

If you need help switching the DOSbox versions, this quick guide I wrote a few years ago for Lands of Lore may be helpful as it's still a fairly similar proccess.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy your play through. I certainly did mine quite a few years back!

I have found a provisional fix. I changed the following line "aspect=true" in the file "dosbox_china" to "aspect=false".
This stranglely seems to fix the aspect ratio but the picture seems to be cut off a little.
But thanks to your links I try to get a better fix for this.
Thanks, Crimson_T! :-)

No problem!

If you're thinking of staying with the original version of DOSBOX you could also try (if you haven't already) changing output=opengl and changing scaler= to one of the other options. As it may fix the picture being cut off.

Though with all the updates DOSBox Staging has, it's definitely a better option. For example, the built in MT-32 support, if you decide to go that route for the music, is a great feature.

As per the article I linked, if you use DOSBox Staging, under [render] set the following for the correct aspect ratio:

glshader = sharp
aspect = auto
integer_scaling = vertical
The viewport can also be switched to viewport = 89% if you want even more crispness at the cost of a smaller image.
