i found a steam post about this glitch from years ago, and i see another thread here about a different glitch that the devs didnt seem to fix, so i guess this is just going to stay in the game forever but - this movement glitch is really annoying. its happened to me at least once in all 3 of the first campaigns. once in each of the Warren campaigns and it just happened in the opening level of the Vasquez campaign so i had to quit before i even got started basically.

judging by the lack of community involvement and the persistence of this bug and others, i guess the devs are kinda done supporting this game? shame, the setting and gameplay is great. i guess i will turn on the quicksave feature which is marked with a foreboding tag declaring its "experimental"...

edit - just searched the game to go look at the reviews and see if the bugs are explicitly mentioned in the top reviews and i noticed there is a sequel. i guess thats where all the dev time and support has gone.

Yes, the devs abandoned this game.

I asked one of the main devs of this game about that in a thread for his newest game, Showgunners, and he replied and blamed his and the other devs' abandonment of Hard West 1 on them having left the company they were with at the time when they made the game.

Personally I don't think that's a good excuse.

But the fact remains that this game is indeed permanently abandoned and it certainly does have game-breaking bugs still present in it.

oh man... games should probably have a tag on them for abandonment. thats really disappointing since its such a good concept. oh well.

We did not abandon the game, we abandoned the company.

I don't know, man, not being willing to go to prison does seem like a pretty good excuse to me.

I agree, however, that the people who are actually legally able to support the game and are still making money off of it should have gotten someone to fix the remaining bugs. Especially since they have since had another studio develop console ports of the game and I'm pretty sure that they did fix some of the remaining bugs for those.
