I've been trying to play Hammerting however the game refuses to play unless I use Galaxy. Without it the game starts a background-task but doesn't actually start.

Does anyone have any ideas before I spend days waiting for support?

Drivers up to date, tried running as admin, various compatibility options, reinstalled. Still nope.

Thanks
Try going to the install folder and launching the game via the shortcut there. Seems to work for me.

Thanks for your reply. Tried that but the shortcut doesn't work, it just launches the game as a background process.

My AV isn't flagging any issues with the game.

It is all strange as before the release update I could play without incident.
I know it's not much help, but I'm experiencing the same behavior. The game refuses to launch without Galaxy. I, too, checked AV since I've had that happen before with other games where the AV would flag it as not trusted.

One thing I've noticed is my AV tells me the executable is not digitally signed. But even so, I've tried to launch with AV turned off completely, and as you say, the game launches something but stalls without completing the launch and ties up CPU and memory resources.

Another possible clue is that I can get the game to run only after using Galaxy to verify/repair the installation, and Galaxy does so by downloading and applying 25 MB of data.

I suspect since multiplayer was added at last minute, something (a setting?) might have gotten missed for launching without Galaxy (i.e., Galaxy is needed for MP but not SP).

I've been waiting for a patch to fix this issue.

Hi, thanks for replying.

At least I'm not alone with this issue, so it may be wider spread.

The above poster has had trouble and traced it back to their firewall. I've checked my firewall and Hammerting is on the allowed list. Still doesn't work.

If I make any headway getting the game to work I'll post here with details.

Thanks.

I think it is to do with GalaxyCommunicationsService.exe needing to be running. Try starting it manually and then try Hammerting... working so far, but not ideal.

The game launches and seems to run fine as long as Galaxy is, at minimum, a background process as shown in the system tray. The full Galaxy desktop environment does not need to be running to successfully launch Hammerting.

I avoid using Galaxy, and rarely allow it to run on my system - only in cases where standalone patches are not available to fix critical issues (e.g., game stopping bugs). And even then, I try to limit Galaxy runs to times only when it is necessary. Like now. As soon as a patch hits to fix this issue, or I abandon this game in favor of another that doesn't require Galaxy - whichever comes first, I will again carry forth without Galaxy.

Galaxy should not be required to run a single player game, and if it is, then that is contrary to advertised information on the game sale's page. I'll concede that it may be required for multiplayer as with many other multiplayer enabled versions of GoG titles, but the presence of Galaxy communications should not be required solely to launch the game. Its presence should only be verified upon the user selecting and pursuing the provided multiplayer option after the game is launched. In the best of worlds, even if Galaxy was not enabled prior to launching the game, the game should be able to enable Galaxy communications in the background before proceeding to multiplayer options.

Thought this might have gotten fixed in today's update. It doesn't appear to have been fixed this time.

Maybe next time.

I'm having the same issue with it: no galaxy installed - game starts only as a background process aka no visible window :(

It appears that the game needs GalaxyCommunicationsService.exe running to work correctly, without galaxy being installed you won't have that .exe file.

Like ditchinit above I hoped it would be fixes in a patch but it hasn't.

I can only suggest contacting support and see what they say.

I contacted the devs via discord and they were unaware of this bug. They seem to be looking into it though. Hopefully it will be fixed soon - I bought the game and am unable to play it, which kind of sucks.

Thank you! Thought of getting this one, but I`ll surely wait until this is fixed -> I like Galaxy, but i must not become mandatory (if only accidentally).

All the best

Took a stab at fixing this today, not been able to see if the fix works, but just a heads up that we are aware of the issue
The issue seems to be resolved with today's patch. Thank you Zerf2k2.
