The announcement of the Lightspeed Edition leaves me a bit irritated, as I'm not convinced that one of the "enhancements" is really an enhancement:
"Streamlined Campaign: Greatly speeds up progression and tightens the campaign to an action and adventure packed 12 hrs depending on your play style and pace."
Well, "streamlined" goes along with dumbed down quite often, and "action packed" is normally not a game category which attracts me.
I'm aware that the original Halcyon has often been described as "tedious", "too slow", a game which requires a lot of grinding, etc., and it may well be that the Lightspeed Edition is a reaction to these comments. But there are people, like me, who don't want to have a game finished in "12 hours".

I have also seen that at least the Steam customers get both games, the base game and the Lightspeed Edition when they buy one of them. This may indicate that the developers are aware that the changes might not appeal to all their customers.
What I don't understand is why there was a need for a complete new game. Why not build the changes in as options? If people want to have a "tighter" gameplay and more action, let them choose the "Lightspeed" option, if they prefer the gameplay of the old version, let them keep it without having to forgo the other features of the Lightspeed Edition (and there are a few which look quite interesting for me, too).
Why do I have to choose between the old campaign and the new Difficulty Mode, Ship Screen, UI, etc., even when I have both games?
