I bought gog's version, ran it and got the message shown in the 1st attachment. Repaired all the frameworks I could find (the relase thread showed a couple) but still nothing. In the internet I found that some other game had the same problem and this supposedly meant my graphics card doesn't support pixel shader 3.0. Only it does, as I yesterday ran the demo I got from Desura and it ran just fine (2nd attachment).
Now, how do I repair this?
p.s. sent this to support too, wonder what they'll say...

Hi Treasure,

It looks like your card doesn't support the XNA HiDef profile and, unfortunately, this is not something that can be fixed with updating your drivers :(

So how come the demo worked in the same pc? It didn't require that HiDef profile? Can't the full game be configured in such a way as to play normally, like the alpha/demo?
Anyways, thanks for the help :-) I'll try the full game later at another pc, in case it won't work at all here, but I liked the game too much to give up on it just because the developer updated the profile requirements...

I am not sure, to be honest. What is the version number of the demo in the main menu?

That must be a really old demo as the current game version is 3.008.

May I ask what video card you are using?

It's actually the alpha version, as found in Desura-it was really stable for an alpha though, only crashed twice. :-)

My video card, according to the dxdiag I just did to be certain, is Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (at least I think that's the one-dxdiags aren't very readable).

edit-the relevant specs of the pc I'm trying to run this game in, are and I'm planning to later try the game in another pc, [url= http://www.gog.com/forum/general/computer_specs_post_yours_here/post157] this one. Do you perhaps know if the video card of that other pc will be able to run the game or not?

The 965 card will NOT run this game at all as it doesn't support the XNA HiDef profile. I know because I used to have a laptop with that exact card. You may have better luck with the ATI Mobility one but I am not sure as I really don't know much about ATI cards.

Oh... :-( And I really liked the alpha version... Well, I guess I'll continue to play the alpha in this pc then and will try the full game at the other pc when I'll be back from the holidays in half a month (this one is the holidays pc as it's more portable, and I thus left the other back home). Anyways, I'll probably mark your latest post as the solution and will see if the issue persists in the other pc when I have access to it again.

So does the issue persist then? :)

Sorry for not updating you on the matter - on this pc that I am currently (the pc with the ati graphics card) the game runs fine, so I was correct to mark the particular post of yours as the solution. On the other hand, though, if I recall correctly, an update from January 2016 switched the game to the FNA framework from the XNA one. On this pc that I currently am on, both the XNA and the FNA versions worked correctly, but I haven't tested the FNA version on the other pc that originally had problems with the XNA version - I don't have access to that one right now though, so I'll probably be able to test it again in 2-3 weeks or so -I'll try to remember to update you on that test...

P.S. Btw if it hadn't worked at all, I'd have probably tried to ask for store credit, as I had also brought the issue to support if I recall correctly, but as they have the habit of closing every ticket when they reply, I didn't think I needed to let them know that the game worked after all...

JudasIscariot:
I just now got to try the newest version of Hacknet, the FNA one, on the pc with the 965 intel chipset, and it continues to not work here. The behavior is different this time around: it shows a command prompt that shows various stuff loading, then goes to fullscreen and shows a black fullscreen with a white rectangle in the middle and a while after that it finally shows a message that the app crashed. I didn't really manage to get a screenshot of what I'm describing, but I could replicate it on the same pc (it's just that I uninstalled said game in the meanwhile). So tl;dr that Intel 965 express chipset still does not want to play nicely with Hacknet, but since I can play it on this other pc with the ati card I guess I'm fine...

Yes, the 965 chipset does not support the XNA HiDef Profile runtime so it will never play nicely with games that use that.

So, the FNA version still uses said profile? I thought it'd be using the FNA HiDef profile (if such a thing exists) or something...

Might use something similar to it.
