Yeah, yet another thread. Im posting this because there is no clear solution for this problem on this forum and those threads with the "solved" tag don't really contain anything useful.

I bought the game, downloaded it and launched it.... and it crashed.

The message only says that Ground Control stopped working.

I have an Alienware R4, Windows 7, nvidia GTX 680, 16GB of ram.

You tried the compatibility settings?
I've just bought this game and have the same issue. I'm running Windows 10 (64-bit) and tried all the compatibility settings and still no-go.

Is there a solution for this or did I waste my money?
I also have this problem. And I've tried different compatibility settings with no effect.
I have Windows 7 64bit, Intel Core i5-2500K, 8GB ram, Geforce GTX 660.

When the game crashes, viewing problem details gives:

Tried that too. Didn't work. :/
Might be a little late but try starting the game in low resolution.

Simply just change your screen resolution to 600x800 I believe. Go to Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust Resolution.

That's what I did.

This time I actually got to see the intro videos but then it crashed again just before getting to main menu.
I actually (magically) got the game running yesterday, don't know what I did, and today it does not work again, have reinstalled it sooo many times. Simply says "ground control executable has stopped working".

I have tried changing the screen setting, does not work anyway.
I have had my firewalls down (don't know if it matters...)
Have tried starting the pc and starting the game the first thing i do, with everything shut down.
Tried the same as above only this time I also installed the game just after starting the PC.

If I recall correctly, the first time I tried starting the game it actually froze at the screen with the stars and the developers name, sierra or whatever it is.

I run a Surface pro 4,
i5-63000 CPU
Windows 10 pro
Version: 1511
OS build: 10586.494
System type: 64bit

It is infuriating, especially since it worked yesterday for some reason.

So yesterday I got the game going again, but now it doesn't work again...

What I did when I got it working was this:
Right-click on Icon>Troubleshoot compatibility>Try Recommended settings>Test the program (with "windows compatibility mode: Windows XP (service pack3(?))>Test the program>Just worked.

Doing the same today does not work at all.. Just get the same crash as before.

EDIT: I have now tried all the different modes, windows vista, 7, 8. None work..

So I got a new crash message now saying something along the line of:

Fatal issue/error
Missing texture

Have gotten it once before.

But once again I got the game to randomly start again now.

I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, restarted the pc, the game did not crash as before, but did not start either, this time it only froze at a black screen. So I redid what I did before, uninstall>install>restart pc>start up the game the first thing I do, and now it worked again. So now I'm trying to finish the game when it's working, lol. Expecting that it won't work if I quit it and try to start it again.
Updated to Windows 10 with a clean install and it still crashes at startup. I actually got it to work with Windows XP installed on a virtual machine, but it was unplayable because of the lag.
Im not 100% sure, but from what i can see it looks like the game encounters a runtime error.
I tried installing some older games on steam, which come with older versions off directX and c++ redist. This worked but only momentarily. Its now back to crashing.
At this point, i have given up.
Will try again at a later date to see it anything is different.
