It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Have downloaded GC1 via the browser (twice), installed ok. However, when I run this game, AVC immediately reports this trojan in GC.EXE.

Anyone else get this or could it be a false positive?

Have also managed to download this via he GOG downloader, md5's match. AVG still detects the trojan in GC.EXE when trying to run the game.

I just downloaded it today as well and I got the cryptic trojan as well.

And me....
This has also happened to me. Downloaded the game today using the GOG.com Downloader, installed fine, on first launch AVG Free 2011 popped up a warning and froze the game before removing GC.exe alongside a number of other non-essential files (mostly ancient .lnk files).

Is there a fix underway for this? It's almost eight months since it was first reported, looking at the first reply on this thread.

Send the exe to AVG so that they can check it out (GOG are legit and there are no viruses) and then hope that AVG update their virus database so that it excludes it. For now, you'll have to put in your own exception to not scan the game's folder.
Okay...me too (September now and still no response from anyone connected to GoG).

And as for Korell. This is a new user (Yes, me too, and their rep is loads better than mine), with the biohazard warning sign for an avatar posting on a thread about viruses. (factors to be consider when judging how much trust to give)

Although having said that, I agree with the sentiments.

GOG is legit. I've had false on positives with AVG before (wesnoth springs to mind) and I can't see a commercial platform like GOG endangering their rep by spreading code that'll mess with their customers stuff. And I suspect if it was a virus with a destructive payload then there'd be a few more posts in this thread.

However I've got too much stuff on my best rig to go against "better safe than sorry"

When I've got time I'll install it on an older (isolated) machine, see if it blows up.

( just poked around the site and found Korell to be a thoughtful and polite contributor of several years standing, whose posts are constructive and to the point.)

Hi Gratbarst, yeah, I've been here a couple of years and I've found the GOG community to be very friendly and helpful so it is very much a case of helping the community as the community helps you. :)

My tag only says "New User" because I just haven't thought of anything interesting to put in its place. As for the biohazard symbol, I just think it looks cool and I use it here, in Windows Live and in Steam, though I do see your connection between viruses and biohazard symbols.

I used to use AVG Free but I replaced it with Avast some time within the last year as AVGs system footprint was getting too large for just a virus scanner and it is known to give some false positives.
It's a false positive; have no fear. ;)

Thanks for the re-assurance. I added it to AVG's exception list and it works fine now.
