Ive been searching for a while on this, because when I play with my brother online, the mp is laggy and dicey, so I'd prefer to only play lan if possible. But we've been all over the place looking for solutions. We forwarded ports in the router (NETGEAR - Nighthawk Dual-Band AC1900 Router with 24 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - Black) and set up the LAN setup. Also, every post i find with solutions is ~4 years old. Some examples are

A guy in there gives lots of ideas but the lan still doesnt show in the server list.

D2 still works perfectly fine over our LAN also, so I doubt thats the main problem.

I'm just completely confused at this point.

You're choosing the LAN option when setting up the multiplayer session yes?

Have you tried the suggestions given in this thread?

Yes LAN and have forwarded ports manually, only the one router/modem combo, only use windows firewall but disabled it, and the diagnostic test says passed on both machines and they work online, just the online servers have tons of lag.
I'm at a loss then since I don't multiplay. Maybe try asking over on the official forum to see if anyone has more up to date solutions.
[url=In case anyone else ever does this in the same order as me, I finally figured it out. The reason this didnt work for me is because I had a modded version of the game on my machine. The order I did things was this:

1 - Read about the Reign of Terror D2 mod for Grim Dawn and buy GD to be able to play the mod.
2 - Realize the base game is way better than the d2 mod and started to enjoy that instead.
3 - Had my brother buy GD so we can mp the game.
4 - Only worked online and LAN was always busted.
5 - Completely forgot I even had the Reign of Terror mod installed and did so much random troubleshooting my head could spin.
6 - Tonight finally read about the D2 mod again and it clicked that I had it installed.
7 - Uninstalled and reinstalled GD and it works fine.

Sorry for all the trouble on this

Actually this post was incorrect. I tried it on another pc with a fresh install and it worked so this narrows it down to the problem being my pc. But despite a couple fresh installs it still doesnt work

Well, that is strange. The mod shouldn't affect multiplayer in any way unless you were somehow trying to play the mod with someone who only had the vanilla game.
