It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Can we connect by the "Internet" server browser option?

Or would we be limited to only using the LAN option?

EDIT: To an extent I have answered one thing I did not know, but not entirely.

"Multiplayer Notice: Please note that the GOG Galaxy Client is required to access Online Multiplayer.

Local Area Network (LAN) does not require the GOG Galaxy Client to access."

I still would like to know if the Steam and GOG Galaxy "online" are connected. That is to assume that Steam and Galaxy simply act as verification/authorization of the accounts playing online and then let them through.

Sadly, the online modes of the GOG and Steam releases are not connected. You'll have to use the LAN mode to connect with people using the Steam version.

I'm pretty sure that Crate has stated that they are looking into a solution which allows a simple way for GOG and Steam users to play together. Don't have a link to that statement right now though, although I will try to look it up and add it later.
Edit: Here it is. One might want to ask the devs for an update on this matter.
